Halloween whining!!

My wife and I live in a pretty nice house...in a nice neighborhood. I know that bad things happen everywhere...both good and bad neighborhoods....but I think most people wander around here without feeling at risk of anything.

So every year, we put up some decorations for halloween and look forward to trick-or-treaters. We don't get a ton of them because the houses are rather separated....but we get some. And every year, I watch as some mom or dad stops their little one from going up our driveway. My only guess is that they don't know us so they don't want to go knocking on our door.

But come on!!!! Our house is all lit up and we have some spooky music and flashing lights in our garage to give it 'atmosphere'. What are they afraid of?? Are we going to steal their child out from under their eyes??...or give them tainted candy??. I think those are mostly urban legends and never really happened anyway.

My wife laughs at me when I bitch about it....lol. Its probably a good lesson for their child to NOT wander up to strangers houses, but somehow I learned that lesson yet I covered a three county area when I was in search of candy. Maybe a better lesson is to be smart about what you do, but also have some faith in people to do the right thing.
