Senseless killings
I really have a problem with the idea of 'senseless killings'. You hear it on the news almost everyday...either that or some version of the concept. I understand what is meant by 'senseless killings', but what troubles me is the existence of them. Let me explain. I'm self aware enough to know that I am capable of many things. I am capable of rage, anger, revenge, spite and so many other unsavory emotions. But even in the my darkest thoughts, I cannot imagine the ability to take another life for no reason....to perform a 'senseless killing'. I guess soldiers sometimes face this dilemma and find a way to cope by thinking that a death may be necessary to protect others. Maybe it is this 'soldier mentality' that can propel someone to commit an act like this.
What motivated this is the news story about an explosion on a Russian train between Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the darkness of night, somebody was capable of planting explosives knowing full well that along with some odd government official or two, there would be men, women and children with nothing to do with their 'cause' on that train. And these same men, women and children had an equal chance of being killed.
How can people live with themselves after doing such a thing??
