i sposed i would update--

went to a small island in the caribbeeean with the boy for about a week, stayed with friends, wondered how different the trip would have been if i still drank. the only honest exchange i had with a local (verbatim):

me: hello
him: hellohellohello...WHY YA GOT AN EARRING IN YA NOSE?
me (sensing doom in any possible reply):...i like it.
him: ITS AN ABOMINATION

nice. the rest of my exchanges with people from the island were pleasant enough, but ended up with them charging me more money for any and every service than they originally quoted. awesome sauce.

i bitched to my brother in orlando about it and he looked at me and said: maybe theyre just bitter bout that job opportunity somebody offered them overseas, bout four hundred years ago.

his knowledge of history is atrocious, but the point was well taken. i wasnt mad, exactly, having realized i was being ripped off at every turn; the extra money they managed to squeeze out of me was next to nothing in american dollars, and went a long way for them. im not sure what i was, exactly. tired, maybe.

at any rate, my brother also said something brilliant to me today, something that made me wish i had his talent:

brother: I feel like I could make a song that could beat someone up if they listened to it too loud. Or maybe just hurt their feelings...I need to figure out combinations of notes that make people feel insulted.
