it's a shame to have to leave such good weekends behind. the workweek just kicks into drudgery and argument. fuck that. i'm glad i have today off to recalibrate and reflect.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
^^ this is leaning out the open transom on the third floor of the Subterranean friday night, where i met the usual crew of rockers plus a couple surprises for another ritual beheading by the Sword... we spent most of the evening in the back by the bar, swilling High Life and Lone Star and shouting to each other over the just-this-shy-of-painful volume that the club seemed to want everything at. the club needs to work on its sound - it was muddy all night. got to meet the lovely and friendly failedagain, who is trekking cross-country with the bands behind the merch table (the unsung heroes of any tour). we did push up front for the Sword, though, and commenced with much headbanging.
i probably hollered incoherently with happiness when they finally played this song, too: The Sword - Freya
after muddling through work on Saturday, the 'Bandit and i met up with notoriousDUG and greenmadtown for good beer and good food at Kuma's. i like those kids a lot and love spending time with them. and yes, almost all of us tried the Kuma burger - a big bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top. it was incredible.
sunday involved lots of couch time - intermittent napping between watching the Bulls clinch their playoff spot and a handful of episodes of Firefly on DVD. at least until it was time to head out in the rain for another show...
was supposed to be guestlisted for the Murs show at the Abbey, but it fell through, so MFN and i paid full price. wasn't too happy about sitting through the fairly rote and tedious opening acts, but boy did Murs make it worthwhile when he got on stage.
the guy is fun, down-to-earth and thoughtful - and it all comes out so well in his lyrics. he put on a great show - an especially high moment came when he did this song:
Murs - And This Is For...
so now i have today off but the time burns up so quickly and i am looking down the barrel of a busy week at work. plus the Ladytron show on friday is sold out, so i don't have that to focus on.
time to be in the here and now, i suppose. thanks to everyone that made the past few days worth living.

i fall a wee bit more in love with Lady Sovereign every day....
