I'm home and sad. Eating cereal and listening to coffee brew in preparation for leaving for work. Work. *makes face*
When surly dropped me at LAX yesterday morning, I tried to be good and not cry, but I didn't succeed. I'd been telling him how we had to be strong and cheerful because we were going to see each other again. I started crying several minutes before we hit LAX, and I felt like a big dope. My vacation isn't until October. I'm going to miss his birthday.
On my flight to Minneapolis there appeared to be a large JPL contingent. Two scientists behind me were discussing these new binary stars they'd discovered. I listened and tried to remember the terminology they used. When we landed I heard one scientist call home on his cell. He was trying to explain how to use TiVo to the housesitter, and failing miserably. Apparently rocket scientists explain such things by saying "I'm not sure how the first button operates -- just jam it a few times."
Customs and immigration were the usual annoyances. When they heard I'd been in the US on a leave from work, they made a point of noting which area of my workplace I worked in on my entry card. I suspect the information will be forwarded to their US counterparts for my next visit. I hope I won't get hassled. *sigh*
Apparently my guinea pigs didn't squeak much while I was away. They were squeaking yesterday when I got home though.
They got a big paper bag in their pen to play in. I think they actually missed me, which is strange because I rarely play with them. Yes, I'm a bad guinea pig friend.
I noticed the clean air, tall shade trees, relatively uncrowded streets and extreme politeness of the populace of my hometown when I got back. LA is kinda dirty, but I miss it. I'll write more of my impressions of LA later.
Well, I guess I better fill my travel mug with coffee and head off to work. It's a fifteen minute walk and it's gorgeous out today. I should be thankful for that, right?
I cuddled up to one of surly's t-shirts last night. I miss him.

Ta babe, thanks for sharing.
I've never been too fond of LA - it is like one big roadway constantly clogged with cars. Of course, now there's a really good job there that I'm going to apply for - wouldn't it be ironic if I end up living there.
