There are two things you should know about my mom:
1) curling is her most favourite sport in the world
2) she just finished reading The Hobbit and is working her way through Fellowship.
Today I'm on the bike exercising and reading my book, while she watches curling on national television (it's the Brier's, the curling nationals). I'm peacefully reading a piece of surrealistic Japanese prose when all of a sudden (and in a fashion complementary to the words) my mom pops out with, "There's Gollum!"
ok.
Apparently the second guy on the Quebec national team -- bespectacled, popeyed, hooknosed and gaunt-faced -- is the spitting image of our favourite Tolkien victim/villain. GOLLUM! hee.
