So it was a good weekend. Not a productive weekend, but a good weekend nonetheless. I am really starting to feel like I'm getting a life here in LA. At long last.
Aside from laundry and a little straightening up here and there, I didn't do jack. Bad Trilo, BAD! And this will be something of a hectic week for me, so it'll be tough to get things done.
I actually have an aunt that lives in Oxnard (not too terribly far away). She's the coolest aunt, too - a little crazy, but all cool. I didn't get to know her that well when I was little, because she escaped from Detroit. For years she was the most jet-set person I knew, and as I went through my own troubles and issues while growing up I realized what she had done. She had risen above the family bullshit, and broke free to live her life the way she wanted to live it. When I was on my travels out here, I was looking forward to connecting with my aunt and spending some quality time with her and getting to know her even better. But I didn't do that. My world turned upside down when I landed, and I avoided talking to her. Maybe it was my own self pity, maybe it was shame. But I didn't want to see her when everything was so broken. And I wasn't looking forward to rehashing the whole breakup story in great detail knowing that it would wind up being talked about back east and it would lead to even more strained conversations with my dad (for those of you keeping score from previous journal entries - my stepdad is one of the coolest/greatest guys ever, my dad isn't...and we don't really get along). But today we talked for a while, and it was nice. And we made plans for me to go up for dinner on a sunday in a few weeks. No big whoop, very casual. It'll be nice, and she'll tell me again in great detail about her master plan to get all the cool members of the family to move out to California.
That said, it's off to bed... I'm partly bummed about not watching the Oscars, but maybe with a little luck and some hard work and some networking, I'll be a part of that industry the next time they come around.
