I've gotten all kinds of drunk to get to this point. I went on what the movie advertisements refer to as a roaring rampage of decadence. I roared. I rampaged. And I got bloody satisfaction. And when I arrive at my destination, I am gonna go to SG Prom...
We arrived in San Francisco without any real maps. While torque and I had been up to no good the night before, Fractal had been thinking and had looked up directions to our hotels. Being a genius, I'd printed out the directions page from the hotel's web site. As we cruised through San Francisco making random turns and trying our best to stay off the sidewalk, I realized that the MapQuest instructions and the hotel's directions had to have been for locations in either a different city, or possibly another planet. Fuck you, MapQuest!
We eventually made it to my hotel without any casualties, and then Fractal and torque zoomed off to theirs, to get themselves ready and enjoy a few pre-game drinks. Funny that when I checked in, the girl at the desk asked me if I was here for the prom party - apparently SG folks had infested the place. As it would turn out, there were more people from the site staying in just this one hotel than most regional group's largest gatherings hehehe... A funny thought, but being from LA I admit to being spoiled (it's not a big event anymore unless turnout is more than 50 people).
Being a site whore and being a tall bald guy makes me easily recognized by others, as I learned while getting showered and shaved. I get to meet all kinds of kickass people from the site, I just don't do it that often while only being partially clothed. Good call on my part for bringing my laptop, I knew there'd be no internet access in the room but it gave me a stereo. Another good call was the gigantic bottle of Skyy along with the equally enormous bottle of cranberry juice (you think I have a Costco membership because I buy paper towels in bulk?). Instant pre-game...spread the word.
In no time a few revelers were joining me for drinks. Some confusion about the start time came up, so people decided to start making their way downstairs to catch a cab. After waiting ten minutes for the cab that had been phoned to arrive and realizing that there were far more people than would fit into a single cab, we stumbled to the nearest intersection and hailed a cab. My particular ride had DaveUnderTheBed riding shotgun and seeing to details of where the hell we were going, then Fu and Talia and I in back laughing our asses off at things long since forgotten, as well as the idea of being each others' dates.
We arrived and made our entrance, arriving at what can only be described as tragically early (there was confusion between an 8pm and 9pm start time). Who cares, the bar's open and great people were on hand.
It was at this point that I learned of DaveUTB's plan to try and murder me, starting with Jagermeister shots. I don't know if it was because I successfully plotted to murder his Poopy nick or not, I just know I'm doing a really nasty shot on top of what was already in my system. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that I can't be killed by conventional methods.... bring it on, bitch!
At this point, I'll just tell you I met a fuckload of people. FUCKLOAD. More people than on your friends list, more than on mine. I thought it was funny that I ran into a few friends from SGLA there that I haven't seen in forever... like the only way I can see them is to drive six hours out of town lol...
There were also people there that I didn't get to meet, it was simply impossible. I felt like my brain was more scattered than normal, bouncing from one person to the next all night and still there wasn't enough of an opportunity to catch everyone (I'm not a fan of nametags, though... I just wish I had the time to socialize properly). But I'm glad to have finally gotten to meet obsidity. She's a completely awesome person and we've talked on and off the site since the end of last year. I only wish there had been more time to hang out and get into trouble (insert evil grin here).
At some point early in the evening, it was decided that Dave and I would get food from the bar. Mistake. It may have sounded like a good idea, but in practice it was one of the least delicious cheeseburgers I had. Later in the evening Seether and his dates hatched a plan to have pizza brought in, with Coco's help we made that dream a reality, though insanely hilarious for some reason.
I apparently missed some bizarre car bomb ritual DaveUTB was trying to get going at midnight, but that's okay I wasn't really thirsty lol... In what seemed like no time, it was time to wind things down and suddenly it was another episode of "SG Standing Around After An Event" - although in this case it was more like "how many taxis can we convince to go into one of the sketchier parts of town?" The answer, I think, was just enough.
Next thing you know, bam - it's an AfterParty. Courtesy of Davel. Booze spread out all over the countertop in seemingly every flavor. It would have been genius had some of us thought to bring mixers along with. I somehow managed to conjugate a couple tasty beverages and had fun chatting with friends old and new. Thanks to the miracle of Juliana and her being several kinds of awesome, all the pizza in San Francisco arrived a short time later. Wondrous.
I think it was around 3-4am when some of us decided to bail on the AfterParty and make our way back to the hotel. We secured a couple cabs, then turned obsidity's ride into a clown car by stuffing six people and cargo into a hatchback. For serious, I seem to recall being inside a basket of some kind.
Instead of crashing out, some kind of AfterAfterParty took shape, with a half dozen or so of us hanging out in my room, working on the vodka and laughing our asses off. Dear Everyone Else At Prom Who Got Sleep Or Something.... SCREW OFF!!!
At some point around 9 the crowd in my room had thinned (some faded, some wandered to other parts of the hotel). Talia rang me up - she was up and wondering if anyone else was... all I could do was laugh maniacally - big ups to her for not having my sleep deprived ass carted off to a mental institution.
Hilariously, torque's phone rang a short time later (she had wandered to another room). I checked her phone's display... it was Fractal. For a few minutes I had flashbacks, and tried to hide her phone thinking Fractal was going to kill us. Oh wait - we're not in trouble. Whew...
I was still pretty fucked up from the night before when we eventually got our shit together and decided to go on a mission. Seether was going to take torque and I to her car, so we could pick up the rest of our group and meet up for brunch. Seether handed torque and I maps that looked like they doubled as Denny's placemats, and gave us jobs as navigators. Somehow, we managed not to die (there's more to that story, but it's been classified and the records have been sealed).
Fast forward to one-ish. We've parked the car, and are playing a fucked up version of Marco Polo. Calling Seether to find out where his crew is at, and then racing off to find the location. "Pier 39" - excellent. We get there and call so we can zero in on the exact location. "No, we've walked over to some other place" (he was more specific, but I'll be damned if I remember). Fractal, Amitahba, torque, and I look at each other quizzically - none of us knows anything about the city's geography, they might as well have been on the moon. After a few rounds of phone calls, we finally find the cafe.
We order up, and just as the mimosas and bloody mary's arrive I hear my name being shouted out. In moments it was a mini-SG gathering, with a bunch of people swinging over to say hello. They were wrapping up their shopping expedition and getting ready for the official SG brunch (we couldn't really do it because we had to drive back). Eventually they took off and the food arrived.... AT FUCKING LAST, I was so goddamned starving (since the slice of pizza at the After-Party I had nothing but vodka...lol).
Fractal and Ami jetted off to meet some of the brunchsters, we had to coordinate getting cars loaded and getting out of hotels. It all seemed very simple on paper, but took forever. Said our goodbyes to Seether's group as well as torque's friends, then realizing how late we were running went off to collect Fractal.
I swear, the official brunch had more people than prom. Parking was scarce so torque opted to circle the block while I abducted Fractal. So aside from a couple quick hellos and goodbyes I was in and out like a flash. Along the way I picked up a straggler, some bizarro woman named Colombia who thought she'd seen me in South America. I could barely understand her as we were pulling away, then finally realized she was simply trying to scam money or smokes (she tried to make off with a pack of Fractal's Camel Reds, but that just wasn't gonna happen).
:::whoosh:::
And we were away. Not nearly enough hellos, and not nearly enough goodbyes. But one hell of a time. I think I was PTFO (passed the fuck out) about 14 seconds into the journey home, but I'm pretty sure we made good time. And by we I mean Fractal, who kicks supreme ass for driving our unconscious asses most of the way.
I'm sure I missed some additional hilarious details, but that's how it goes. Maybe there will be extras when the DVD comes out lol. Pics are up in the prom group.
