I'm a little late writing this up simply because I enjoy video games. It's hard for me to choose just one that I loved the most while growing up. There has been so many that have moved me or provided countless hours of enjoyment. And to top it off, I am old and grew up through a good portion of the early years of gaming. Not quite Coleco old, but close enough. So I will have to mention more than one.
I suppose most people will go with the classics. Final Fantasy. Dragon Warrior. Zelda. Mario. Megaman. And countless others. I loved those games, but the ones that enjoyed the most were almost always RPGs. And the NES that I grew up on had so many. In the end, the one that I would say I loved the most on it was Crystalis. Something about the story, gameplay, and music were just awesome to me at that time.
Looking further down the road, when the SNES was released, I would have to say Chrono Trigger was the top dog at that time. Again, so many great games at that time. Some of the best known Final Fantasy games were out at that time. And of course the Breath of Fire series was out as well. The Zelda games were progressing as well. Video games were growing, in diversity and scope. But Chrono Trigger had so much replayability thanks to it's New Game+ and the alternate endings that were achievable. Not to mention the amount of story, character development, and easter eggs.
I would be remiss if I didn't also give a nod to my computer games. Despite the sheer volume of games that computer gaming encompasses, there is only one that I will say was my favorite growing up. Master of Magic. A small, little known fantasy strategy game, it consumed so many hours of my childhood. The ability to custom create your wizard, choose from a variety of armies, play randomly generated maps, and being able to win without having to crush your opponents in battle just made me happy.
OK, done geeking out. Thanks for reading as I walked down memory lane and reminisce of things that I loved.
