Thanks to the visitors who posted birthday wishes for my father on the previous page. We had a nice little birthday party, and instead of a "genuine" cake my dad would not have been able to enjoy, we had a birthday tiramis (with lotsa candles sticked in it, of course).

happies!

Did I send you an e-mail? I was pretty sure I did send it off but yahoo won't tell me whether I did or not...I don't want to think that I have sent one when I haven't!

A belated happy birthday to your father.

I doubt I'll be able to keep away for long, I've made some really good friends here. I expect I'll rejoin as soon as Erin has a new set up!

Mad Cow Eater!?! Ha! I'm a veggie! *Tries to think of something disgusting eaten in France and is overwhelmed with choices* heehee biggrin

May 1st.

What kind of post could I think of, that could be related to May 1st?
Let's see.
I recently read that:

living as I do in a rather rural-type area, I occasionally have to resort to Amazon in lieu of a much-preffered browse in a funky neighborhood record shop...
anyway, in my last order (which arrived yesterday) I included Gianmaria Testa's "La Valse d'un Jour", which I'm listening to as I type this (& I think I'm going to listen to it quite a bit in the coming months) similar,to these American ears, to Conte, but without all the studio frosting that tends to overwhelm some of his tracks (at least on the solitary c.d. that I've listened to)
thanks for the heads-up!
(& happy birthday tp the pere, eh?)

Since I'm too sleepy to write a whole e-mail I will tell you about a lovely dream I had.

You know that weird soap stuff that they have that has little colored beads (i guess of gel or something) floating in it? I dreamt that beads like this, very small, in many different colours, and with a dull glow to them, were raining down everywhere. They rained on top of trees so it looked like christmas. It rained into lakes and streams and into snow. It made everything look fun and colorful and wasn't harmful to the environment.

And then one day they all kind of melted, leaving their colors everywhere. From then on trees bloomed a rainbow of colors and rivers were rainbows. I loved it!

It could be that I appear not to be too much talkative in the next couple weeks... reason why: a deadline is dangerously approaching, I have lots of drawings to do, and i don't stay connected as much as usual...

but I swear, I love you all, all the same...

I'm much better, thanx. And thanks for checking in. Only problem now is that I let my sanity pills run out without getting them refilled. I have been without for four or five days and it hasn't gone over too well. I find myself irritable, easily slipping into much deeper depression than usual. I get overly pissed off at the smallest trifles then I feel severely guilty for reacting so inappropriately. Depressions follows hot on the heels and with that comes critical thinking. By this I mean something like, "what the f@#* is the matter with me? I'm such a stupid piece of scheidt and it's only a matter of time before people see through my facade and she's doing that wrong she should be doing it this way damn she's even dumber than I am oh god what an asshole I am for thinking negative thoughts about anyone else it's me it's all MY fault...." It goes on and on and on and on in my mind. The constant drone of negativity makes it so damned difficult to do anything but keep it in check, not to let it spill too much out into the world. I keep thinking about what an awful person I am but I suppose if I truly was as bad as I sometimes think I am... I wouldn't care about letting my pain and anger flood the earth. So irritable, quick to anger because I phucking hurt because for some reason I didn't refill my meds even though I knew what would happen if I went off them cold turkey. You know, I don't make sense to myself sometimes.

Ms Ani Di Franco, do you have anything concerning phoenixes you could be willing to share with us?

"... and God help you if you are a phoenix
And you dare to rise up from the ash
A thousand eyes will smoulder with jealousy
While you are just flying past."

Thank you very much.

"I did everything that I could do."

Thanks again.

ratsonjulia:
& what does that mysterious demon-savant Google have to say?:

The Phoenix

a poem by Shams ud-din Mohammed Hafiz
as translated by Ralph Waldo Emerson

My phoenix long ago secured
His nest in sky-vault's cope;
In the body's cage immured,
He is weary of life's hope.

Round and round this heap of ashes
Now flies the bird amain,
But in that odorous niche of heaven
Nestles the bird again.

Once flies he upward, he will perch
On Tuba's golden bough:
His home is on that fruited arch
Which cools the blest below.

If over this world of ours
His wings my phoenix spread,
How gracious falls on land and sea
The soul-refreshing shade!

Either world inhabits he,
Sees oft below him planets roll;
His body is all of air compact,
Of Allah's love his soul.

For your commodity (my dear Reader) the new "view the journal blog-style" feature allows you now to screen the entries 10 by 10! So it's now of no use I add, as I had planned, an index to the episodes of our Spring serial, ended last week (it started here)

Instead, as a postface of sort, some words by Hakim Bey (author of zataz/...

The sun here is warm. It warms your skin, and makes you drowsy and happy.
And the Pacific...
I walk down the beach *yes real, beautiful, fine sand...* and watch the waves crash in, perfect break down the shore. The mountains drop into the surf, and the light is warm, golden. I feel almost silly saying it but it is true.
The light in Holland is unlike anywhere I had ever been, cool and mechanical, but this light is filled with emotion...

I owe you a long post and some pictures...
I think that is in order...

Well, platinum is considered a precious metal by the "industrialized" world and it does fall within the group of materials whose appearance can be described by the generalized term for my favorite "color". (ie silver). It also has exceptional resistance to corrosion and respectable structural properies.
I hope that doesn't rob the happiness from my previous statement. You must understand that these technical aspects can be beauty to those who think as engineers. biggrin

DAUGHTERS OF BASTET: the twelfth monkey

I stirred, slowly, the capuccino that had costed me half the change that two weeks spent taking Greyhounds and planes one after another and covering my traces in various ways had left in my pockets.... or so it seemed.
So, checking again my pockets's content was the brightest thing I could think of, at the moment....

Excellent, student ratsonjulia.
It proves you paid attention to the last lectures. It was a test.
Repeat, class:

THE SO-CALLED "FOSSIL" BONES WERE PUT ON THIS EARTH TO TEST OUR FAITH IN GOD.

Good.

Student Jeeves, please put some more rats on Julia.

ratsonjulia:
there is not now, & there never has been, such a thing as "Jeeves".
(owowow)
statements to the contrary are, of course, harmless fiction or misguided propaganda.
(ow!)
nonetheless, consider this your cease&desist.

you have been warned.

DAUGHTERS OF BASTET: eleven

Some of the following may, some may have not, happened: Carver pressing, in a spasm, his Uzi's trigger... the small white object being dashed from his left hand and describing a parable in mid-air... Ms's tiny form becoming somehow blurred and undergoing an unaccountable transformation... Andreotti losing his nerves and firing frantically toward the place Ms was...

DAUGHTERS OF BASTET: la decima vittima.

I should have been more cautious. Carver had still the best tracking team ever.
To his left this massive, dark-skinned hulk was Jeffries, and to the right this long thin frame could belong to no other than Andreotti. I knew their weaknesses, but they knew mines. The issue of a fight was, at best, dubious. The...

hehe sorry for misleading you, I'm actually in the UK. I'm showing solidarity with France against those who seek to outlaw all things French in the US at the moment though, a rare thing for an Englishman!
