Mom and Pops are out on vacay, I have Rascal for the week. He only whines and barks whenever I’m around, not to anyone else. Throughout the years, it’s probably because I was always the one that spent the most time training, grooming, bathing and snuggling with him. Many in my family do not allow the pets on the couch or to sleep with them in their beds, I always chillax with any and every pet on the couch, and sleep in my bed.
Even at friends’ places, I let them snuggle and sleep with me. Some like to keep their separate and private places.
I learned early on from nature, there is the domesticated hierarchy of humans, and those of us whom are naturally inclined to companionship and camaraderie (not even buying into speciesism).
Ancient Egypt adored and worshipped the cat, Native American tribes respect and cherish the wolf. Now both domesticated in modern times; the cat to keep the farms clear of vermin such as mice, rats and scavenger birds; the dogs to help hunt, round up the herds and be the warning signal for any possible intruders.
The far cry difference between “pets” and “familiars.”
