I can just about see the cobwebs I haven't posted here for so long. Briefly, I've been busy working for a few months, and then I've been busy vacationing (as the americans say) in the US for a month. Went to Burning Man, which was fantastic - i'm converted to the cult of burning man. I'll have to post some pics here now, so you...

Hi there...

I love Burning Man pics... im too scared to go, but i love looking at all the weirdness and general other-worldality of the whole event!

Just curious... did you have any trouble with getting in and out of USA? Ive been hearing a lot about problems post 9/11 (or should that be 11/9?) knee jerk policies...

I always wanted to go to burning man, but.. I dont know ..never made it there.

Had a good time in Wellington at the International Arts Festival. Saw British comedian John Hegley - very funny in a dry and dark sort of way. Sang songs and recited poems mainly about stuff from his personal life, alot of which was about being unhappy or sad, or odd stuff like having to wear glasses. Then saw a very physical theatre piece from Canada...

I will never reveal how Ms. Gerner came to my attention. Some things are better off as mysteries. Like this.
sakita:
that sounds soooooo awesome. I love stuff like that, but havent been to anything for years. Im just not into swedish artforms. (mainly because I think that swedes are humourless)

of course the picture is tongue and cheek, i absolutely adore men. they are my favourite life form!

smile

hugs!

Just a quick note, which will only be a list without any actual interesting content.

Good stuff that has been happening:

+ Met a new woman, we're getting on like a house on fire

+ Took a trip to Vietnam for 3 weeks late December to mid January

+ Went to see David Bowie live

+ Going to the Wellington International Festival of the Arts...

I do wanna go to the arts fest, but I don't know what's on. Is there a guide online? When are you guys coming down?
galvagin:
The trip sounds interesting, at least. I don't know that I could be comfortable simply going on vacation to a place like Vietnam (or any developing country) - I'd feel too exploitative. But, perhaps part of that is the recognition that my country is at least partly to blame for Vietnam's current situation.

And, no, neither Democrats nor Republicans tend to take very good care of U.S. Vets, from whatever war. For all his militarism, Bush has repeatedly cut soldiers' and vets' pay and benefits.

I don't hate John Kerry as a candidate. I think he represents more or less generic democrat-ness. Part of the issue is that he doesn't have stable stands on most issues, so you're basically voting for the general Dem approach to things if you vote for Kerry. But right now I think that that's significantly preferable to Bush, however the details work out.

Well, umm, ok, I haven't been here for almost an indecently long time, but, you know, stuff has been happening.

The last thing I wrote was to report that my Dad had died. Thats receding now, but I miss my Dad, often for the funny little things. My Dad kept rainfall records on his farm for the Met Service for over 50 yrs (he was...

Man, it never rains, but it pours. My dad had a (second) stroke last Tuesday. He's in hospital now, barely conscious, hardly recognisable as the same Dad his children know (age, gravity and the stroke must be doing that). The stroke has been major, a good chunk of his brain has been killed off, the doctors say he won't recover to conscious health again, to...

Glad to hear you're alive and well. Stop by my journal some time and marvel at the crap I say.

I don't know whether it's meant to be entertaining or cathartic.

Wow, you go away for a few days and when you come back it takes like 2 hours just to go round a few peoples journals and say hello.

High spots - my son got his drivers licence last week - Yay - he was really nervous because it was his 3rd go -the examiners are really tough - most "experienced" drivers would fail I...

Thankyou for your offer, if you wouldn't mind me featuring her in a painting, I'd love to see some pictures.
And of course, if I did use the pictures, I would send you a print for yourself smile

I know what you mean about catching up on the journal comments and everything. It's fun but it sure does suck up lots of time!

Yay for drivers-license-getting!

The news here in NZ has been sad. The body of a six year old girl who had been missing for 11 days was found yesterday. Her step father was arrested for her murder that day.

I just don't understand how anyone (male or female) can murder a child. Even if they have been brutalised as a child themselves, how can they not have some...

I know what you mean... there's been heaps of stabbings here inthe past week....

last monday 2 students were beating to death with baseball bats in their home.. on the same day an father went mental and stabbed his whole family to death includoing the mothers grandfather who was there watching the kids whilethe mother went to the cops to report that he had bashed and raped her the night before....

the cops we're driving herr back home and they arrived as the father was stabbing the 20 month old baby... the cops shot the father but he managed to stab himself in the heart and then died later in hospital....

so what more do you do you know? she was going to the cops to report him and report that he had threatened to kill them all... she watched her whole family get murdered ...

on the same day a zoo keeper at taronga zoo got stabbed by some random looney and ateacher in brisbane taking a bunch of kids on an excursion in a state forrest got stabbed by some random stranger

Ahoy there, me hearties. Cap'n Tobydog arose at cock crow to journey to the volcano in the centre of the island to conquer its snowy flanks. The mists of the morning slowly unfurled to reveal the mountain in all its white splendour. Undaunted, Cap'n Wade and I braved ice and precipice, plundered the small inn of its hot chips, and ate snow before returning undaunted...

Hey, I thought we were wowsers here in NZ, but I see they've banned the patrons from touching the dancers/strippers in LA clubs/bars. The dancers have to stay a minimum of 6 ft away from the punters.

Oh well, just...

Ah, Perfect Day... a good choice, but you are right, it has been chewed by advertising...

Still dismayed that the Clash - Should I Stay was used for a Levis ad... Not really punk biggrin

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me etc.

Oh gawd, I'm 41 today. Sometimes I feel like I'm only about 25. Then other times I feel like I really am 41

This is the first birthday for quite a while where I won't get laid. Bugger.

Still, theres always "unpartnered sex". Hehe, I love that expression:
"What are you doing tonight?'
"Think I'll have...
