STORY TIME

Or The Tale as I know it so far

Another cocktail?
She seemed different this time. The last time the stewardess had come around with the cart selling beverages she had given the illusion of a slightly more conservative look.
Perhaps it was the change in my disposition or again maybe that drink which had innocuously seemed so docile at first might have been more potent than I expected; but I could have sworn that during our last encounter, the snug uniform which she had worn, had been a form fitting type of wool/polyester blend rather than an opaque latex which she now adorned. I am also quite sure that there were many other subtle incongruent features in the angelic form that now stood before me, compared to my former recollection.
For instance; her heels seemed higher by a good four inches, and the smart thin silver bracelets that jingled tightly around her supple wrists as she had mixed my earlier drink were now replaced by wraps of a thin black cord, bound many times around her forearm and intertwined occasionally with barbed wire. Else where there were several other small shifts in persona, as while her black bangs still remained the single long ponytail had subdivided into two lengthy and sweeping pigtails that perched high upon her crown. Her lips, although retaining the same brilliant and sleek cherry red lipstick now had an extremely subtle dark hue at the edges.
Again I dont know if this transformation was just a perceived fantasy, or a reality. Perhaps I was not the only one re-arranging my wardrobe in anticipation of arrival at the Isle, or maybe I had been overly self involved before, my mind so wrapped up in the murky cloak of my own world that I failed to fully perceive the world around me. Regardless of the intentions the result was nothing short of breath taking, and as I stood there for a moment, mouth agape and fully enraptured I remembered the old Isle axiom Ella Diabla, is in the details

We both swayed with the motion of the train as the momentum sprung me from my fixation and she smiled.
Another Drink?
Yes please, I think I am in need.
I sat back against the bench seat again, glad of the rigid support it offered as she began to open the various compartments of the cart.
You want the same?
I would hate to break precedent. What was it called again?
A Shattered Reflection.
She combined Gin with some other far more exotic elements in a large silver shaker with an open hand logo emblazoned into the side.
Are you headed to the Isle for Vacation?
More business than pleasure.
First Time?
Her skill was extraordinary, as every motion was swift and wasted no energy, a dash of some deep azure liquid, a squeeze of lime.
No, I used to live there.
My response seemed to have evoked some surprise in her as she raised an eyebrow and one corner of her mouth in a wry smile.
Huh, most only go for a brief vacation, or occasionally I meet some one headed there to retire, but not many are ever very transient.
It takes a special breed.
Tell me about it, try working the train there some time, it does require a sort of she chose the next word vary carefully transcendent quality in your personality.
We exchanged a few more pleasantries as she packed up her various utensils, and I paid her for the drink. Yet just about the moment I expected her to disappear down the hall, she paused at the doorway.
I will stop back by to check on you soon.
Thanks, I will probably need another. I held up my glass in a small toast.
Just watch out, while that little lady might not have the bold audacity of an Isle cocktail, she does have her subtleties.
I was just beginning to notice
And she was gone.

Responding to your Steampunk group intro: You're in the right town for it. We organized a few "Steampunk Day Out's" through SGLA a few years back, and no doubt it could happen again.
