On his return to work this morning, he saw a rainbow.

T'was the 3rd day of the month, the sun had awoke and a rainbow was smiling as he rounded the corner. It couldn't detract from the day ahead but it was a welcoming change from the greyness that January had been shrouded in.

He did feel better and a little stronger, hence his return to the day job, but as trepidation started to creep in he turned to realisation and asked her if his strength would be consolidated further in the day upon his visit to the counsellor.

The previous evening, his Doctor had offered him medication and leave of absence for a further period of time, but he had chosen to decline. The bottles were being re-corked, his pride was stubornly rising and he felt the time had come to stare adversity in her face, pack up her bags and send her on her way.

The counsellor was fine and upstanding. He felt rather stupid going to see her. But having finally acknowledged he had had issues to deal with in the past, that they did indeed need addressing and laying to rest, and that one step back needed to be taken to enable two steps forward to be gained, he graciously accepted that this 5 week run was as good a place to start as any.

He dreaded to hear the words " tell me about your mother ". A gross misscoception upon his part as it turned out. Times had changed and the words he actually heard were "tell me about your father".

The 60 minutes flew by and though he had counselled countless others countless times and enabled them to answer their own questions and face their fears, he'd never realised how simple it could be once the roles were reversed. Without encouragement he found himself answering the questions before they had even been asked. He'd just needed someone to point out the obvious and clear the wood from the trees.

Reality had sort of suddenly set in, and whilst he knew it wasn't all plain sailing across the seventy seas and there was still some distance to go before the shore could be reached, faith and a little bit of hope had been restored in his lost and waywood soul. There was a light that never goes out after all.

So friends, that is an update of short and bitter sweet nature. His apologies are profuse for this moment in time and he will resume contact with the outside world very very soon. Please bear him patience just a little while longer.

This weekend see's him away from the Disko-tec yet again. His absence has been extended to one more weekend to enable the junior one to come stay. No doubt the junior will show him perspective, take him to the soccer in Manchester, make him eat marshmallows and put a smile back on his face. No mean feat, but one in which the Junior one will more than likely accomplish with ease.
