I know very few of you care about the World Cup, but this is my blog, so I can write whatever I want.

First off, the US played ok and got very lucky. England has suffered from awful goalkeeping in the past and I guess they can't get away from it. I'm still happy that we did get lucky and Landon and the Boys didn't fall apart after falling down one after 8 minutes. I will worry for the first 10 minutes of every game. They seem to have a knack to start slow and forget that it is a game for real. I still think we can make it to the next round and even beyond that.

Italy showed up today and I'm pleased. However, they are not getting through the round of 16. If they can't beat Paraguay, despite how good they could be, they are not going to get far.

I'm impressed with the Deutsch Nationalmannschaft. They are the real deal and until I see Brazil play, I think they have to be the favorite. Moving to their neighbors the Dutch, I wasn't terribly impressed despite their 2-0 win over the Danes.

Argentina needs to find their goal scoring. They could have easily won 6 - 0. They are fun to watch.

This is fun!

i'm looking forward to the brazil match tonight! you've been spot on with everything so far. italy won't make it too far because they don't have any natural goalscorers. iaquinta and gilardino are terrible. i don't know why lippi didn't take totti. at least he scores!

usa will qualify from the group. i have little doubt about that.

ahhhhh that's great! i'm also a liverpool fan, completely unrelated to the beatles though tongue

I think your right about us agreeing on a lot of things. I believe we are all closet Libertarians. But which do you prefer the Libertarian angle or the total government-socialist angle? I hate to be the one to break it to you but Marx's socialist utopia just doesn't exist! It's been tried and failed numerous times. And each time it fails people fall back on the idea that it just wasn't executed properly. It would be nice if we could all sit around the campfire and sing kumbyya. But it's not realistic. Why should those who give it their all to become successful be forced to pay for those who refuse to work? I don't want to preach to you but there is a great verse in the bible. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 If a man will not work, he shall not eat. It goes on to warn against idleness. The problem with government handing out all these entitlements is it makes people lazy. I happen to believe in what Franklin said about making people uncomfortable in their poverty. It's the only way to make them try harder!

This administrations agenda seems to be to make us all equal. But does anyone really believe that if we "spread the wealth around" that it's actually going to work? There are to many poor and not enough rich for this idea to work. Especially if you look at it from a global scale. This cap and trade bullshit is a scam. Take from the rich countries and give to the poor countries. Do anybody really believe China and Russia are going to go along with this? smile
