Last week was a crazy week. At work, I was assigned to a high pressure short timed project. We have a task that needs to be completed in three weeks or less, has a lot of consequences and it rests on me. I have been feeling the stress big time. Two weeks left!

The weekend was restful, however. Saturday, I hung around the house, went for a 2 hour bicycle ride and went out with the girl. We went to support a friend that plays drums in a rockabilly band. While he is a pretty good guy, his girl drives us both crazy. To make matters worse the bar they were playing in had the worst acoustics. They sounded like shit. Their original songs sound very similar. Thankfully they play enough Gene Vincent and Buddy Holly covers to make it interesting. We have been noticing that his friends have stopped going to the shows. It is down to us, his girl and his brother. We may be next!

Sunday we went to a silent auction to raise money for our neighbor. (By the way, prior to the auction we have been able to raise $35,000. Some of it from my bicycle ride. Again, thank you to those of you that donated). A friend could not make it to the auction, but she knew there was going to be some sports memorabilia. Her husband is a huge Boston Bruins fan (ice hockey). She wanted us to bid for a stick signed by Ray Bourque and gave us a budget of $500. She planned to surprise him for his birthday. The starting bid was $100. We bid $125. Quickly someone bid more and we counterbid. Soon we were up to $500. The bidding guy put a bid for $525. We discussed it and decided we could pitch in another $50 more, so we put a final bid of $550. The guy looked at the bid and walked away. With 2 minutes to go, we knew we had it. We kept an eye on the sheet and saw no one else bidding.

When the winning bids were announced someone else that we never saw bid won the stick with a $600 bid. On one hand we are happy that the $600 will go to our neighbor's health bills. On the other hand we were upset that it seemed rigged. The guy that won is an employee of the guy running the auction. We saw no one outbid us at the end, yet someone did. Oh well!

We did not leave empty-handed. I won a bid for a watch for the girl and a two-night stay at an inn in New Hampshire; both at bargain prices. Also, I won a raffle for a book,
The Best American Comics 2007. The girl also won a cooking book.

I will leave you with a picture of my dog, Willow (age 4) and my cat Mr. Hobbes (age 17).

Sounds like you've got a lot on in the next week or two, I wish you the best of luck with it all. Shame about your misfortune with the auction and it certainly does seem as if there was something dodgy going on with the bid but still, you win some, you lose some.

Neighbour's health bill? Is that like when you're not insured? I won't pretend to know much about the subject but I've heard a few things about it. I've been meaning to go see Michael Moore's "Sicko" too and your post has now reminded me.

Right, I really am off to bed now, nunite!!

xx

PS: Give your animals a kiss from me; I'll give my doggy a kiss from you.
