Yeah Saw's execution was flawed, but it had a lot of good ideas and (AFAIK) it's the writer's and the director's first effort so you've got to give them credit for trying.
As far as Batman goes, it's an extremely male affair. I agree it would have been much better to see Dent's backstory instead, but from a writing perspective I think it did need a female character to punctuate all the testosterone. I think they just picked the wrong actress - someone a little older and ballsier would have worked much, much better IMHO.
