I'm a theist, and today I've been thinking about god's relationship to time.

Concerning god's eternity, there are two main schools of thought that place god as eternal in a temporal sense or an atemporal sense.

It would seem that if gods eternity is temporal, and god exists in time, is time something that is above god? If so, would that be acceptable to the...

hehe, sure. Don't think of it as much as advice, just what I think, for you to take what you like and leave what you don't. wink

I don't get the (usually atheistic) viewpoint that says, "If god created time, then god has to exist in time -- it's impossible for god to exist simultaneously inside and outside of time." To me, this seems horribly short-sighted. I mean, I can build a swimming pool (much like god theoretically built the universe). Once said swimming pool is finished, I have the ability to exist inside the swimming pool. I have the ability to exist outside the swimming pool. I even have the ability to exist both inside and outside the swimming pool at the same time by sitting on the edge with my feet in the water. The atheists seem to think that once you've built the pool, that's it -- there's no gettin' out of it. I just don't understand that logic.

I am not in a hurry to join the ranks of these knuckleheads, so I keep playing the indirect "I'm not sexually into...

Since I don't have a journal entry to start with, I'll copy this reply I placed under a topic of Freewill vs. Determinism from the philosophy group. The beginning argument set up is not my own, but is one taken from a lecture. Its a typical argument against freewill.

The argument is set up like this:

1). Suppose that in 1900, God believed that Howard...
