The reading and book signing for "Paying For It: A Guide by Sex Workers for Their Clients" at Valencia Street Books last night went pretty dang well. I had the honor of reading my piece after legendary prostitute, writer and sex-positive activist, Carol Queen, presented hers.
Members Shadowsilver and Impboy were in attendance, dressed to the (respectively) silk dragon and Burning Man nines, and Impboy's lady friend, Robin Hood and I spoke our (respectively) Quebequois and Parisian French.
There will be another publicity event for this book at Good Vibrations in Berkeley.Thursday, October 21. It'll be a panel discussion followed by questions from the audience, co-hosted by Good Vibes and the Center for Sex and Culture. The panel will be moderated by Carol Queen, and will include the book's editor, Greta Christina, Robyn Few from the Sex Workers' Outreach Project; Lex Kyler, ak Vic St. Blaise, former editor of Whorezine; Mistress Morgana, star of "Whipsmart" and professional dominant; Jennifer Millis, lap dancer; and Hugh Loebner, sponsor of the Loebner Prize for Artificial Intelligence, acknowledged sex work customer, and sex work activist. The doors will open
at 7:30, and the panel discussion will be from 8 to 10. The Good
Vibrations store in Berkeley is at 2504 San Pablo Avenue (at Dwight Way). Unfortunately, I don't think there will be any time for readings at this event, and I'm not on the panel, but I'll be in attendance and probably signing.
