Actually the California Republic flag was designed in 1846, before the USSR and People's Republic of China started using red star imagery. It became the official state flag in 1911. The red star is a symbol of independence cribbed from the Republic of Texas. Here's the whole story.
We've moved into a garage that's in a much more convenient location. I like it a lot. I will miss the old roomies, but saving on gas will be killer.
In the process of getting my hair platinum, it has become straw like and unmanageable. So I'm trying to bring it back to life right now. I wish hair products were less expensive and not tested on animals.
Work has been very satisfying. Four days a week I work in the kitchen and don't have to deal with customers at all. It's so much more fulfilling to be making food with my hands. Customer service (which I now only do one day a week) is so soul-destroying. It doesn't matter where you work, a certain percentage fo customers will be condescending pricks and make you feel like scum for having to be nice to them. Apparently my definition of polite (saying thank you, speaking in a calm and polite tone, and getting their order right) is not enough for some people. Does it really ruin their meal if I don't smile and chit chat with them? I mean it's basically fast food, it's just bagels. I find it irritating when service people insist on talking to me instead of just taking my order, but I guess some customers can't live without it.

Most people are pretty dumb, and it's easy to be politely condescending. Like complimenting atrocious aspects of someone's persona. That way, they are encouraged to continue acting/dressing like a complete tool. Sure, it's unfair to the next poor soul who has to deal with them, but if you try to save the world one person at a time, you're in for a mental breakdown fo sho.
