It seems like a lot of men I know blow off my fears- like my fear of walking to my car alone, or being alone in big cities. If they don't outright blow it off, they humor me. Do they realize that my conscientious fear is what keeps me safe? That my walking through certain areas is inherently more dangerous than theirs because of my gender? That I'm smaller, weaker and and an easier target than them? I'm not being paranoid or wimpy, guys. It's just that I know how much danger I'm in.
These same guys who roll their eyes when I ask to be escorted to my car would probably also blame me and my stupidity if I was raped, saying that it's my dumb fault for being there/being dressed like that/ being alone in the first place.
