OK! (insert fake smile here)
So I order these company checks with my name on them over a month ago. They claim they mailed them to me twice and both times the post office refused to deliver them. So I have them sent to the branch of the bank nearest me, making VERY clear that I want MY name on them and NOT the account holder’s name (I even talked to the asshole in charge at the check printing facility and made this very clear). He said “OK, not a problem”. Well, guess whose fucking name is on all half dozen books of checks I ordered? And, of course, the checks are useless because they have my address and HIS fucking name on them. Fucking assholes! I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE FUCKING CLEAR WITH WHAT I WANTED ALL FIVE FUCKING TIMES I’VE BEEN IN THERE THIS MONTH. And still they fucked it up!
You cannot fathom how angry I am at this. This is beyond rage and fury and anger because I did everything I possibly could to avoid this fuck up I saw coming, including EXPLAINING to the Branch General Manager, in person, that I did not want this exact fucking thing to happen. And it fucking does. Jesus I am blind with rage when I think about this.
But, do not think I am not without good news. My two brothers are in town, therefore how could I not be happy?
My bonus check also turned out to be over four hundred bucks, so I took them out to eat on my dime. I figured on Texas Roadhouse, which is pretty kick ass, but the wait was over an hour. So we went to Outback just down the road and ended up being seated immediately in the bar (which was even better because the Red Sox game was on). All in all dinner was about eighty bucks with drinks, but I was more then happy to pick it up.
Before all this we spent the day in Boerne (well, they did, I spent most of the morning and around noon doing work because of a break in at a unit) on the ranch, which kicked ass. One of my cousin’s, who I am very close to, and his long time girlfriend were in town for the funeral and we all hung out. It was fucking great.
On the way to dinner I stopped at a gas station in Boerne and picked up cigarettes for my brother and ended up picking up a bottle of cheap wine. I’d never had Syrah wine before, so I figured to give it a try. Let me tell you, Turning Leaf’s 2001 Syrah is fucking kick ass! One of the best I’ve ever had in my life and it was like nine bucks. Funny, gas stations in Boerne have a better wine selection then most liquor stores in San Antonio – just goes to show you how rich Boerne is, money wise. This wine, though, is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a wine. It’s beautiful. I couldn’t put my finger on it until I read the label, but the plum, cherry, and vanilla (swoon
) flavors are so perfectly blended I’m tempted to buy a half case of it tomorrow (I sense another impulse buy I will regret coming on
– but at least another bottle will come home with me from the funeral, and probably a few will go to the funeral with me).
Oh, coming out of the Roadhouse parking lot we were almost hit by some asshole in a Camaro. I was flipping a U-turn and he comes barreling around a corner and I had to reverse so fast my tires spun to get out of his way. Luckily no one was behind me, cause I didn’t even have time to look, I just hit the gas and hoped for the best. The thing that blew me away is that he had more then enough time to stop, he just didn’t because he was trying to show off. When he realized he was going to hit me he locked his brakes, but if I hadn’t gotten out of the way it would have been bad. As it was he took off like a bat out of hell when I started yelling and my brothers were the only reason I didn’t go at him with a fucking tire iron. I totally lost it. It’s different when it’s just me in the car, but when it’s my family, showing off in a way that might kill one of them is beyond not being fucking cool.
Well, the funeral is tomorrow. Well, the wake at least. A lot of people are going to be there, a few which I don’t want to see, but I’ll be plenty drunk (on top of tasting kick ass, this wine is proving to be veeeeeery strong
). I’m also hoping to take my middle brother to see Jim Collum’s jazz band ( a world famous jazz band) at The Landing (a world famous jazz joint in San Antonio) if we get away from the wake early enough. Probably we won’t, but I know he’d love to see Jim Collum – he’s a jazz nut. Actually turned me on to some cool bands today.

Oh, and yes, I am quite well toasted right now. Half a bottle of wine is a beautiful thing, especially residing in my stomach with a twenty-something dollar rib eye steak and all the fixins.
