My Long Adventures During the First Day of College:
(this one ya'll should read, it's upbeat and fun!)
Wow, so I've become very out of touch with my people. Ah, tends to happy to the best of us Better People. . So since my jalopy piece of shit truck is broke down, I had to take the bus home from class today. Dear God, my old man said he'd drive me and who shows up? His wife. The one he's supposed to be divorcing. He called just before she showed up to tell me not to talk to her and that they were going to stay together (hence my missing handfuls of hair from my bloody scalp).
There was no way in hell I was going to take a ride from her again (if he wants to stay with her, fine; but I'm cutting that whole side of my family off now - she's evil and maniacle and obsessive compulsive and thinks she knows what's best for everyone, and, frankly, if he wants her he can have hear...her and I have never been close, but what little prefunctary formality we exchanged before ends now). So I took the VIA bus home. Wow, public transportation is still cool. Been years.
So this kid's on the bus, not older than me. He's a white boy, like yours truly, and obviously has a touch of down syndrome (facial structure and they way he moves make it obvious). I see him and start worrying I'm going to get my ass kicked cause all these punk ass gang bangers were on there, and some reason those types like to make fun of and punk kids like that. Now this isn't something I'll stand for (and I have the scars to prove it). The whole ride I'm thinking about how I'm going to face off six guys if one of them starts shit with the poor kid (I know it sounds like I'm trying to seem bad or tough; but this has happened to me numerous times...I'm not ashamed to admit everytime it happens I get the shit kicked out of me - they can hurt my body, so long as my pride stays intact, you know?). Luckily nothing happened, or at least before my stop. The whole time I saw them eyeing this kid, but they decided to lay off, so that's good.
Wow, get off half an mile before your bus stop and you find all kinds of weird shit. I thought the old bus stop was gone cause of recent construction and got off at the new one. WRONG. I don't mind the walk, actually it was a good idea. I found a Chinese Grocery Store (I knew it was there, just thought it was closed), a Used Book Store (knew it was there, too, but was fucking amazed at their selection!), a Thai restaurant (what the fuck???) and a Mexican Pizzaria/Taco Shop (holy shit!!!) that are like a tenth of a mile from my apartment. I thought half of this strip mall was deserted, but apparently it's not. I'd eat at the Thai place, but I'm still sick from last night.
OK, so school kicked ass. Aside from the creepy ride from my evil step mother, the rest of the day kicked ass; I even got a chance to be creepy!
My math teacher is cool. She isn't the one I thought she was (I used to have Kirkpatrick, this one is just straight Kirk - an honest mistake), but I seem to remember her being a better teacher than the old one. Funny, though, I'm sitting in this class and I'm being SUCH an asshole, on purpose. I want EVERYONE in there to hate me. I seriously do. I want them to LOATHE me. There are too many hot women in this class that I CANNOT date. That's what fucked me up last math class - I was dating half the women in there, on and off, and it got so dramalicious that I couldn't keep up with the work. No, this class is off limits. I will remain in my corner snearing at the world and focusing wholly on my work (there is no way in fucking HELL that I will repeat the same REMEDIAL math class a THIRD time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
My Macroeconomics professor is a fucking lunatic nut job. My kinda guy! He's like a crazy Jewish New Yorker from Mexico, if you dig my drift. He wants very much to be our friends, but is also very professional. He's a nerd, but in a cool, geeky way. I look forward to his class more than any of the others (that says a lot, cause the class is, after all, macro-fucking-economics...???).
My Modern World Literature teacher. Jesus. Where. To. Begin? This guy is kick ass. He actually IS a crazy Brooklynite English teacher right down to the tweed suit with leather elbow patches (!!!!!!) and books that have no spines (piles of paper held together with rubber bands). He's got the accent, too, of a Brooklynite, and uses all these crazy metaphors us San Antonionions have no fucking idea what they mean ("I rode the subway a lot when I was a kid" he says in reference to his bad hearing...even I took a minute to realize he meant the subway was loud...I mean, how many of us had every been in a fucking subway? I was in an underground trolley car at Tacoma International Airport once, but that was the extent of my experience).
In between my Math and Economic's classes, I looked up a teacher from last year. Her and I had become fast friends (I was on a quest to engage her in some, uh, 'extra curricular' activities until she mentioned she was married...I might be a pig, but I'm a respectful pig). I hung out outside her class until she came out and jumped when she saw me (we haven't emailed in almost a month). I walked her to class and we talked about the book club we were starting (first novel will be "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo...read it people, it'll change your life, and I meant that). I hung out in her next class for a while and left. My creepy moment of the day.
Right after that I sat down outside next to this adorable little Mexican chica on the bench. I wasn't planning to talk with her, having just checked out "Cat's Cradle" from the library, but made a comment before opening my book and we ended up talking for hours. She's pretty cool. Name's Ester (I write this down here because I will forget it later). I hope to run into her again later this week. I'll end up taking her out within a week or two (this I know, how long until I fuck it up I do not know).
The more I think about it, the more evident it is that the Used Book Store next to my apartment has to be a drug front. I'm not kidding. There is absolutely NO WAY a book store can support itself in this area. I mean, fucking a, there is not ONE SINGLE new bookstore on the ENTIRE Southside of San Antonio. I am sooooo not kidding. Every year us locals rally a petition around to get Barnes and Noble to open one, and every year they refuse because the store wouldn't support itself (whereas the Northside has more book stores than gas stations). No, this Used Book Store is too far off the beaten path and in too bad a location to support itself selling twenty-five cent books. Still, I will check it out. Drugs or not, I am a fiend for cheap books.
First, though, I must have my truck towed and then clean the apartment and the order my dinner (pizza...ugh...). I plan to take the bus to school tomorrow and then again home. The trip only takes forty-five minutes and it's dependable, whereas waiting for a ride can take hours. Fucking undependable friends/family. This year at school ought to kick ass...

THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS ARE CURRENTLY NUMBER ONE IN POSITION FOR THE NATIONAL LEAGUE WILD CARD SPOT!!!!!!!!
This means that the only professional sport's team I love has a VERY good chance at the World Series. I have lived my life with the singular hope that I would get a chance to see the Giant's win a World Series (when they played the Series last time I watched every second of every game, and remember everything...it was the best thing I ever fucking saw on television).
These wild card standings change daily, but the Giants have been slowly and steadily climbing straight up to the number one position. Things looked dismal in the beginning, as they always do with the Giants, but, once again, they came from behind and are now at the head of the pack. I would give my left nut to see the Cubs and the Giants in the play offs to see who would represent the National League in the World Series. To this day I absolutely despise the Florida Marlins because they destroyed my only hope of every seeing the Cubs and the Giants in the play offs (not only that; but the Giant's former coach, Dusty Baker, YOU GO BOY!!!!, had just left the Giants for the Cubs....he'd turned the Giants, a pathetic team, and turned them into a World Series team in a matter of years...his first year with the Cubs he did that same thing...so my two favorite teams, at their best, had a chance to play each other in the play offs after switching coaches...I mean, shit...it doesn't get any more intense than that...)
oh, i almost had an orgasm there...sorry...i mean, i hate sports (especially football...ugh, could they have ANY more fucking rules?????), but when it comes to baseball and my beloved Giants (who until very recently in my life were a fucking joke, but I loved them all the more for it) are doing very good these last few years....and, of course, my childhood love the Cubs (i used to be a Little League Cub, and was quite good I might add - I knocked the shit out of the ball everytime and could run like the wind)....I just can't get enough of either team....plus now they have Sosa and Bonds, respectively...jesus, how cool is that. Barry Bonds, who I've loved from the beginning of his career, is about to be home run king of all time...despite the fact that all these pitchers keep walking him...
