Midterm elections are two years from now, that's really not a huge amount of time. Retaking the House or the Senate would be a big step towards restoring that whole checks and balances thing.

Yeah, I actually modified it so that the Bush to Kerry voting ratio was a red-purple-blue gradient instead of a red-white-blue gradient and then illustrated the population density by fading that to white. It's interesting, but I need higher quality maps (specifically, a population density map that doesn't actually have county borders on it, because that fucks with the values) before I can get something I'm comfortable posting on the boards.
Here, I'll show you what I've got now, though so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. I had to blur the population density map to minimize the borders, and the result just made it a bit too tough to read.
Plus the maps don't line up quite right.

Yeah, you're right. I think both that map and the original map need to be viewed together to get a good, accurate picture of the distribution of the electorate, but I think the orthogonal representation might provide a better one-stop view of it. However, I don't really want to spend much more time on it. That one took me the better part of last night. 
Oh, and I went ahead and posted that to the thread, since I'm not planning on doing a better version anytime soon, and it looks better now than it did at 4am this morning.
