Sunday turned into quite a big day. I got a last minute invite to Tropfest, the big short film festival held annually in Sydney. It fills the Domain, a large park between the Sydney CBD and the suburb where I live -- thousand of people out in the late summer evening to see a bunch of short films. Somewhere along the way (from its humble origins in the Tropicana cafe) the festival gathered amazing momentum to where it's now one of the largest short film festivals in the world.

Since my brother is a bit of a movie industry mover and shaker, we were going to the VIP tent. Walking through the park, full of people with picnic baskets and blankets and bottles of wine, I was struck by the sight of a bunch of people lined up, backs facing us ... I couldn't figure out what they were doing until we had to walk through them. They were lining up at the red carpet leading to the VIP tent.

So we made it inside, and during the evening I saw this guy

and this Olympic medal-winning guy who was surrounded by sexy young women

and at the end of the night I got to meet special guest this guy!

An interesting moment earlier in the day too. The FuckOffGirl and I went off to the Royal National Park and walked around in nature. Driving out through the park on an isolated road, we saw up ahead two young women walking along the side of the road. One stuck her thumb out as we approached. TFOG gave me an expressionless look, and we kept on going.

As we went past them we had this brief conversation.

Me: "You know, that's a classic male fantasy going unfulfilled right back there."

Her: "Just keep driving."
