I am really nervous, so I can't sleep.
I got my class list, yesterday, and Open House ("meet and greet") is tonight. My room is still a disaster, but I will have it looking good by 6pm. It'll take time, but I'm not too worried about appearances.
If my class list is correct (I noticed that another teacher's room # is on the list, so I wonder if ours were switched - which would suck, since I was stupid and wrote things in my planbook in pen)... anyway, if my list is correct, I have not a single white kid.
I love my school! (Turn your sarcasm detectors off, people, this is a good thing!)
However, my Spanish is teh suck. I'm very nervous about meeting parents and trying to get to know them - especially since I have no idea what forms I should have ready for them. I am losing my motherfucking mind (and sleep) over this. I realized I should just get out of bed and do something to make me sleepy when I started trying to translate all my thoughts into Spanish to practice for tonight.
I am very excited about having a half black/half latino class. VERY excited. It'll be different, interesting, and challenging. I have found, over the years, that these are the kids with which I identify and I am thrilled to have them. However, it is my first year, and the unknown is a bit scary. I know I'll be fine and it will come together, but for some reason I can't convince my brain of that.
