I don't know how many of you read LittleFierceOne's entry about the furry kids going to the vet today, but I thought I'd give an update.
While they are both home and doing well, neither surgery really went as well as we'd hoped. Amira, the princess, was in for her spay. Everything was fine, her bloodwork was normal, she did well under anesthesia - but her insides are, apparently, a little strange. Her belly button is lower than normal, she had extra ligaments and blood vessels... just, odd. The vet assured us that it shouldn't cause any future problems, but I worry, anyway. Seems the leg might be congenital, after all.
And Goblin, who was in for a teeth cleaning and to have one fractured tooth pulled, had his procedure stopped because they kept finding problem teeth. We take good care of our kitties, and these specific problems are probably more a sign of a predisposition to tooth problems than a reflection of poor oral care, but LittleFierceOne is feeling pretty guilty (as he hasn't been brushing their teeth, regularly). Again, brushing probably wouldn't have prevented the problem entirely, so it's not his fault, but anytime your kids aren't well, a good parent blames themselves. He has to go back in six months to have another cleaning to take care of the rest of the problem teeth. I don't know how many they had to do today, but it was at least three. Poor baby.
So, the kids are okay, but not great. It's sad, because we don't know how many teeth Goblin will lose, and Amira's future health now seems somewhat unpredictable, but at least they're home, and happy. They're coming with us when we go to Richmond for Christmas, so the drive will be interesting. It'll be Amira's first road trip, and Goblin and Grimm aren't huge fans of night driving. How could you not take the kids to Grandma and Grandpa's for Christmas, though??
Oh, yeah, happy solstice!

Yeah my eight year old lab is as much my child as a human child would be. I took her from her mother early, as they were moving away, and I had to nurse my little puppy with a bottle. She's actually one quarter doberman, and a huge hundred pounds. Still my baby though....
