I've just been doing some internet browsing (no, not for porn) about two men I greatly admire: the Father of this country (USA) George Washington and fitness guru, 93 year old Jack Lelanne.

Nothing more in this world I want to believe Washington was the amazing figure he has become in history. From the declaration about the cherry tree, to his abhorrence to electing a king to their new nation (ie the presidency), his monetary support for his army, choosing to step down after two terms in office (though many wanted him to stay), handling of affairs between the Federalists and the Jeffersonian Republicans (while not belonging to either group officially) his shrewd judgement and delegating demeanor of all things, foreign and domestic, political. Honestly, I've yet to read of anyone as grand as Washington. The only tidbit I can mark negative about him is the owning of slaves. Though horrible it was a sign of the times. However, it is said that the reason he didn't free them (besides many being the "property" of Martha) is because it was one of the few points that this new country teetered. How insightful if it is true since Lincoln saw what happened when the point was pushed, bringing forth the Civil War. Afterall, it was a delegate of South Carolina that refused to sign the Declaration of Independence unless the idea of ALL men (meaning Africans as well) was struck out during the Second Continental Congress. Perhaps Washington was that forward thinking to revoke the rights of "negroes" then to ensure the safety of the country itself? Or is it a blaring blight upon his nature to allow such to continue?

Ahem, moving on...

Jack Lelanne just amazes me. Ninety three years old and still could kick my ass. At the moment I'm admiring him for his wit.

His simple rule for good nutrition:
"If man made it, don't eat it."

And his reason for longevity:
"I cannot afford to die, it will ruin my image."

I was not aware of the other contributions he's had besides hanging out at muscle beach (and feuding with Richard Simmons biggrin ). Google it or check out the informative page at Wikipedia.
