Maybe it's just me, but I'd guess that guys who have a picture of themselves holding a gun for their profile pick have issues with their manhood. And by "manhood," I mean "wiener." smile

Hahaha totally depends what the purpose of the picture is or for what website. I would say don't generalize. Choosing a profile picture of you holding a gun for a social website I would say yes trying too hard to be a tough guy.

But being a member on a gun/BB softair/paintball related website and shooting a picture for that is totally not the same...

I read some graffiti somewhere a few years ago, that said something like, High Expectations Are the Road to Unhappiness. I thought it was cynical at the time, but now I feel that it's essentially true. The converse: Tempered Expectations Keep You Somewhat Mellow. Not as much of a ring to it, but again, essentially true.

The problem is, everyone feels Hope, and Hope is...

I think I met, like, 7 new cool people tonight. That may be a record. Hopefully, a few lil' friendships can develop.

I am so much more forward about meeting people and getting into conversations these days. That shit works, let me tell you (if you've got a little bit to say). Call me a friendship slut, I guess, lol.

Sigh... maybe there's hope after...

Thanks for your very kind words and generous thoughts on my blog -- they help, they really do, out here in the dark and the night. It is, as you say, a matter of time, but it is also quite real at present...

jury duty huh? I've never had the pleasure -- as a counselor by trade, I always tell them I already know both whether the party is guilty and whether or not they'll be convicted -- and out the door I go!

wink

Was glad to hear you liked the video!

Jumped out of an airplane yesterday. It was pretty nerve-wracking sitting by an open door at 10,000 feet, then sticking my feet onto a tiny little wheel cover as the wind tried to whip them away. Then suddenly I was launched by my tandem-jumper out into space, and all I could say was "Whoaaaaaaa...." It literally took my breath away for awhile. 130 mph, down....

MORAL LESSON FAIL: With the sheer amount of illicit substances I indulged in last night, and the fact that I was up until 6am, I have no business feeling as fine as I did today. OH WELL. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Oh god... too much pizza. I'm about ready to go full-Scanners.

Just got back from Tahoe. It's nice to be there with my friends, but jesus, their kids are spoiled brats right now. Too much fake crying and coddling. And you should see the kids! [laughter, applause, loud booing]

No, but seriously-- if I go insane as a parent, I hope someone sets me straight....

Aww, just read your comment to Kiki's video, yes, she's a bit silly.

I'll set you straight. It will involve handcuffs, but I will set you straight. wink
I don't know anything about kids. Whenever I am around them I have no idea what to do, but I hate seeing misbehaved kids. Those parents are setting those kids up for failure.

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to make an unexpected side-trip to Asheville for a couple days. After that, I may have to cut my stay in North Carolina dramatically short-- trouble and complications a-brewin' on the homefront (none that really have anything to do with me, but my presence may not be, uh, appreciated). This actually kind of sucks-- I've been looking...

Never been to Asheville, or any where in North Caroline for that matter. But I've also never been to Miami so I'd choose the latter

I appreciate the comment. It would be nice if this dip in my happiness was the dip that lead to change. Time will tell.

It's getting pretty late, don't have too much time to blog now. But I just want to say that Charlotte, NC is a pretty cool place. I'm staying with friends and really digging the people, the places, the plants and weird bugs. But it sure is fucking hot. I'll relate some of the stuff I'm seeing soon. (Example: tonight, Fernelvis, the most famous Filipino Elvis...

I spent some time at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown NC. Lovely country and friendly people, but hot and wet, wet, wet.

A Filipino Elvis?! That's crazy. Take lots of photos of NC, man.

I have a lot of freedom, freedom to do what I want when I want. Lately, I've really been thinking about how I can translate my interests and abilities into something more than being a reader/watcher/listener. I mean, I do teach, which is an honorable and productive job; and I try to be a good friend, brother, etc. But I'm thinking maybe I should make...

The first week of summer was fantastic. A wedding, a bunch of old friends, partying, my birthday, a concert, more partying, a trip to the beach, a music festival, a trip to the river, margaritas with friends last night.... I think I've done more in the first week of this summer than I did all of last summer. Very, very happy about this.

All of...

To me it seemed more like the filmmaker was using sensationalism to make a profit and maybe a name for himself. When I was reading about the film I found the subject matter interesting but I don't think it was handled in a very tasteful or imaginative way. It didn't seem right to be recording suicides in order to broadcast them in a public forum. Granted, these suicides were already taking place in a very public space but it is is still an intensely personal act that I don't think needs to be exploited.

I guess I must be ready for summer, 'cause I've been tired as fuck lately. Maybe it's the annual allergy-reaction thingy-- it's lke having a bad cold and having your eyes go crazy for about two months. I guess I need to look into stiffer measures next year, like getting a shot or something. I don't think most people realize how bad it is because...
