Today I was bored, so I decided to do a little bit of stream-of-conciousness free writing. I ended up writing part of the beginning of this story I'll most likely keep writing, because I liked the way it was going. For once I liked my writing, ha. But yeah, I was kind of thinking of some songs I had listened to lately mixed with Stormy's new set. Tell me what you think!!

Between Smoke and Cigarettes: Chapter 1

Kate went out to the sidewalk of her favorite bar and sat down. She had obviously slammed down too many PBRs and felt sick to her stomach. She pulled out her cigarette case and flicked her lighter, inhaling the smoke from the first relaxing breath.

"The first breath is always the best," she thought.

Her bright red lips pursed around her cigarette case as she looked up with wide eyes and a half smile at the now crescent moon, thinking about the night before.

She did this almost every night in New York City. There wasn't much else to do since her best friends were now on the other side of the country. As she thought about the other night at The End, she realized that she surprisingly remembered quite a bit.

The bar was stripped of its cheesy, yet charming 70s wallpaper and repainted with a textured black paint, the drab color juxtaposed with bright renderings of abstract art that seemed to be transfixed on bad acid trips. The beer was amazing and was made even more rewarding by the cold rush of inebriating fizz running down her throat after a hot summer day in the city. The DJ sat above the bar on the opposite side of the room and seemed to share a brain with her that night, every song seemed to be plucked straight from her favorite cds and mixtapes she left at home. She remembered all of the dancing she did, wiggling and moving and shaking her hips to her favorite Whirlwind Heat song, cigarette in one hand and beer in the other. The dim room because a blur in her eyes as she mouthed every word to every song as the money she made that week magically dwindled away from buying booze and giving generous tips. She always gave good tips to bartenders, seeing as she was one back at home and truly knew how hard it was to keep sane with all the pressure. Her change clinked in the tip jar and she managed to score a free drink from the bartender, either because she was a good patron, or most likely, because she was the most beautiful girl there.

A quick smile was exchanged and she offered the guy a smoke, but he couldn't get off, although he promised her that he would take her up on the offer the next night, since he knew she'd be there anyway.
