SUEDEHEAD FALL USA TOUR 2011

Looks good with a big headline, right?

I joined the fantastic Orange County mod/powerpop band Suedehead for 15 shows opening for Social Distortion across the US from New Hampshire to Denver. The first part was getting from Los Angeles to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire for the first show. For the most part we followed old Route 66, which for my money is the best drive in the country. I love the transitions from California desert to New Mexico red mesas to Texas plains to rolling Missouri hills. We did allow ourselves one night of fun in New York City (since we were ahead of schedule) and went to an amazing jazz club in the Village.

Some photos from the drive out:

Our van. My home for 3 1/2 weeks.

Some sort of whorehouse disguised as a "gentleman's club". Somewhere in Arizona.

Big skies as we get into mesa territory. Arizona.

Cadillac Ranch, Amarillo TX. This is an art installation from the seventies. Several 50's-era Cadillacs are buried in the ground at the same angle as the pyramids in Egypt.

Once we finally made it to New Hampshire and started actually playing shows, we were all a lot happier. Everyone gets antsy when not doing what we're supposed to be doing - playing music. New England and points along the east are really beautiful, especially to those of us not used to seeing it.

The beach, Hampton NH. Reminded us very much of Brighton in England, where the mods and rockers used to fight back in the day.

Niagara Falls. A fun day off during our shows in Buffalo.

My favorite bagel place in the world. North Bergen, NJ.

Mike Ness and the guys from Social D couldn't have been cooler to us. We hung out often before and after the shows. Ness hung in our dressing room a lot. I think he wanted to stay in touch with what it's like to be a band just starting out.

Here's Ness doing his thing.

I invited a number of SG people out to the shows along the way. Some people actually did come out but strangely enough, I never actually met them. Odd. I was hoping to meet so many of you.

This is just the first part. Wanted to get this up and out there. More pics and insights coming soon.

Ah yeah, that will be a total pain in the ass... I've always wanted to live abroad but never considered the US because of the crazy inmigration laws. We're getting married (not for the greencard, but it's definitely the easiest and cheapest way to do it so that's a bonus) so I think I have it pretty good compared with what other people have to go through to inmigrate.
