I had a nice long chat with my wonderfully insane Aunt Susan tonight.
I asked her a question.
Me: "Do you have any regrets about mistakes you've made in the past?"
Aunt: "Nope."
Me: "Really? Not a one?"
Aunt: "No regrets."
Me: "How? Why?"
Aunt: "Here's the way I see it, Sweetie...If I had regrets about the mistakes that I've made in the past, I wouldn't have learned how to make it all right again."
Me: "Aunt Susan?"
Aunt: "Yes, dear?"
Me: "I love you."
So now, I'm on a mission. A mission to make it all right again.
"Memory is the way we keep telling ourselves our stories--and telling other people a somewhat different version of our stories. We can hardly manage our lives without a powerful ongoing narrative."
