Apparantly they used to (or still do) have an Upright Citizen's Brigade theatre in NYC that would have a rotating cast every week, and they would just do all kinds of improv. A lot of regulars of the Daily Show, including Jon Stewart, used to stop by and perform. Never got up there to check it out, though...
