It's been a while so I figured it was time once again to get all wrapped up in another blog. My schedule changed and I'm back to being a night owl. Tough to do in Vegas and stay out of trouble, so I've been trying to keep myself busy doing the standard late night agoraphob stuff that keep a person from swirling down the dirty drain that is Sin City. Basically those things include late night movies, video games, and painting. The end of March and early April marked a couple of milestone anniversaries in my life. March 28, 2008 was the last time I puffed on the sticky green, big deal for an X pot head like myself. April 1, 2008 was the day I left the city I was born and raised in, and set out on my Las Vegas adventure. Things are still going great with work, and that's why I moved out here so..... SHAZAM! With all the year anniversaries and all, I decided to treat myself with a new toy. I'm the proud owner of a brand new shiny chrome low rider bicycle, dude... shit is SUPER PHAT! I just got it in the mail today and they forgot to ship one of the parts so it's still in a few pieces, but as soon as it's whole I'll put up some pics. The plan is to trunk it down to the strip, park my car, cruise around, take pics, and people watch. Fun, fun, fun! I also put up some pics of the painting I'm working on a couple weeks ago. I think I'm gonna put up a few pics every time there's some progress, kinda like watching it come to life. When I was home in January I promised my friend Baby J that we'd take some pictures and she could pick one, and I'd paint it for her. I also put up a pic of my first gray scale oil painting I did of my friend big Al, it's the only painting I brought with me so that's all I could really show. I went and saw the Sin City Roller girls tonight, and will go back next week for sure. I used to go see the roller derby back in San Antonio and loved it, so that's something I'll look forward to every week. I'm starting to firmly plant my feet here, and it feels good to finally feel like this place is becoming home.
Ok, enough about me. I always try to leave ya'll with some inspiring gems to check out if you wish. They do come highly recommended by me so I hope you enjoy. If not, don't blame me, variety is the spice of life. I'm a total hip hop junky, take note, I did not say I love rap. I'm talking late eighties to late nineties, before every song on the radio was about 22's, iced out watches, Moet, and being flashy to get pussy. Bombing walls made me more serious about my art, lyrics made me more serious about my writing, and I used to be a pretty bad ass breaker before I got chubby and old achy joints. So basically hip hop made me what I am today. If you have any interest in the hip hop scene you gotta check out Planet B Boy. It's a documentary about 5 breakin' crews from around the world that go to Germany to compete to be the crew of the year. I know what you're thinking, and this is not some teeny bopper dancing movie with a love story tied in. The shit is real, and it breathes, bleeds, and sweats the hip hop scene. If you're not into hip hop, or sub cultures in general this might not be for you.
Ok, the last one might not be for you, but this next one is a must see. It's called In Prison my Whole Life, it is also a documentary made by a British American kid in his twenties. It's about an activist/journalist named Mumia Abu-Jamal who was imprisoned the day this Britt kid was born, and it is flippin' awesome. Really, do yourself a favor! It's got interviews with people like Angela Davis, Noam Chompsky, and even Snoop. I'm not gonna ruin it by saying any more, just TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.
I've really gotta stop typing before I go off on something else, so peace out from Las Vegas until next time.
