i had to post this again, because i find it so mind-blowing. dave goodrich. so, essentially dude has removed the drum track from this recording of rush's subdivisions and is providing percussion himself. i'm just in awe whenever i see this footage. he's like a ball of furiously bombastic, highly measured and sickly talented skinny fucker. playing neil peart like he was born to do...

lost some money at the table last night. it happens. today i'm working on some of the text for my culinary portfolio. and watching baseball. i usually relax the day after a loss, if i can, and appreciate all my worldly possessions. stuff. i'm not the most materialistic guy around, but i like my stuff. sometimes i feel bound to it all, but those moments...

Hope you didn't get stuck too bad. It seems like when you're running good you feel like you can do no wrong, and when running bad you can't do a damn thing right.
I'm staying on the positive side of variance so far this month, up around $600 in 10 hours /4700 hands.
I've been trying to fight hubris a little, getting urges to spend my winnings on a PS3 or something equally unnecessary when I know I need to beef up my roll and savings. It seems like when I'm up part of my brain wants to forget how bad things can get. I think there's a balance between materialism and not giving a fuck about stuff, I'm just not sure where its at. Sometimes stuff is just an easy way to keep score of how successful or unsuccessful you've been.

How much more culinary school do you have left? If nothing else you should get a job as a food photographer for mags judging by your picture collection.

some of the best music that nobody ever heard. that's the screaming trees. great band. the lead singer, mark lanegan, put out some amazing solo stuff. now he's with queens of the stone age. not my favorite band, but they don't suck.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm actually going to see whether I can step it up to the next level this month. As of Thursday I'll be unemployed by choice. I've been dating a girl in the Seattle area for the past 2 years and we decided to finally take the big step and make it short distance. Going to go back to school once I get out there and try to salvage a business degree from my Aero Eng dropout credits. I think its the best shot I'm going to get at trying to play for a living. If things don't go well, I can always go back to having a job, if I don't give it a shot I'll probably always kinda wonder if I could have done it. I'm currently bottom feeding (short stacking) at .50-1 NL and 1-2 NL at Stars. I'm winning at a pretty decent clip, $5.82/100 hands, $21.74/hour 6-8 tabling. The short stacking has helped to keep the swings a little milder, once i get up to 40 buy-ins for NL100 I might go back to playing deep. I've been working a lot on my post-flop play, the Harrington on Cash games books are both really good if you haven't picked them up yet. Once I get moved out west I'm going to probably spend a good chunk of weekends at the Tulalip casino. Their 1-2 NL plays short ($50-$100 buy in) but the post tourney players the time I was their before were pretty terrible. One of my brother's old roommates just moved out there to work for Microsoft, so hopefully I'll be able to find some fat home games with the young and wealthy.

I think I'm going to try to write up a sort of beginners guide to online poker for the group. It seems like there's a pretty steady stream of people coming in with " how do i get started and build a roll?" questions. I'm going to try to find a hand history converter that will work with the SG boards.Being able to post hands in an easy to reaqd format should help foster discussion of how and why to play them different ways. I think you quiz and definitions threads are great, its too bad you're not getting more responses.Hopefully building a little momentum will get the group more active.

you are the fucking man! thanks!

ac/dc's first album with new lead singer brian johnson. 1981. after bon scott passed away in a parked car, the saddest day in rock-n-roll history. anyhow, the aussies came out swinging after bon's death and released one of the five best-selling rock-n-roll albums ever. bon would have been proud. highway to hell & back in black are probably my favorite back-to-back rock-n-roll albums. back when...

Yes, I remeber it well. MTV played videos back then, too.

The bike IS the coolest, but just a dream. I came inches away from getting one when they first appeared and now wish that I had. The Supermono is one of the sexiest racers ever.

Hey rocker,

Thanks for all the info/advice.
It's really hard to what to say to my friend of 12 years/midwifery client when her partner left when the baby was 5 weeks old to be high on junk in the park. She tells me it's like he died and she is mourning a death. I try to reflect on him being sick. It really doesn't change her sadness. I wouldn't choose to be around any of this. It's just something that came with the friendship and the job this time.

Thanks though really it gave me perspective. kiss

the weirdest thing happened yesterday. i was at wal-mart buying some stuff ; a water-pick, a vacuum cleaner and a few dvd's. when i got home i put away the dvds and put the vacuum cleaner together. then i opened the water-pick, which is a tooth and mouth cleaner of sorts. but instead of a water pick, there were three twelve-ounce plastic bottles of green...
