i've been back on the job hunt for the past two months. a promising interview on tuesday, a dozen applications to finish today. the catering company hasn't given me any hours since september. i made about $1200 at the poker table in september, and now i'm waiting for a settlement of $1800 from the state's unemployment board. it's funny, i made a master list of albuquerque about 130 albuquerque restaurants where i plan to apply in november and december, and i had already applied at nearly 60 of them. these are the toughest economic times i have seen in my life. usually if i pester people long enough, they give me an opportunity, sometimes if only to placate me. lately when i call back to try and overcome the initial 'no, we're not hiring', i've been getting some testy attitudes. even the bartender/managers who are on salary at my home bar are grumpy because they're working extra hours so the owner doesn't have to hire and train anybody else.

i've lost about 30 pounds since may, and i plan on losing 50 more. culinary school. i've reached a plateau, so i've got to kick up the cardio-vascular and start counting calories. which thrills me. dating is like a strange carnival game lately; sometimes it looks easy but is downright impossible. sometimes i win a big, furry animal that i want to give back. hah. it seems i had avoided a lot of the stranger pitfalls until recently. maybe all of the good ones are taken at this point. who knows? i'll be 40 in february, that number never bothered me. i think 50 might freak me out some.

Glad to see that you're taking care of yourself. Losing weight is hard, but if you're properly motivated and have the will power, it can be done. The danger is in letting down your guard once you lost the weight. It's easy to backslide.

Best of luck with everything.

Start working on a low-cal, big flavor cookbook. People eat that shit up.
