This entry has no purpose other than i need to write for some reason. Expect random musical commentary.

Dio's "Rainbow in the Dark" is fucking great. Maybe not in the sense it's a technical masterpiece, but Dio has such enthusiasm & underrated talent that it makes it so delightfully fucking bombastic. And it helps not to look at him, because he's ugly as sin, but man, what a voice. Seems like a cool guy, too. I used to dislike him a lot, but the more i hear "Rainbow in the Dark" i appriciate him. His videos have always been fucking awesome, though. Seriously, they may not rule for the same reason they might have at one point, but fuck, "Holy Diver" is a masterpiece.

I think i love Leonard Cohen. Downloaded a bunch of his stuff awhile back, since a friend of mine loves him, & i was curious after seeing him compared to guys like Lou Reed & John Cale somewhere. Don't see a lot of that comparison, but i love the style. Lyrically it just all seems so fluid, almost complicatedly effortless, if that makes sense. I think i need more. I'm listening to "Closing Time" right now, & while it isn't my favorite at the moment (leaning towards "Suzanne" at the moment; feel free to reccommend me more) it's very fun to listen to. How is Cohen classified, anyway? Alternative because he just doesn't fit anywhere? Maybe alt-country, if you wanted to really generalize?

I'm also getting a renewed appriciation of Elvis. Presley, not Costello, who i already consider a god in his own right. I love his Sun stuff, but honestly i like the stuff he did after a little better, if only for the polish. Holds up better to me, i guess. But he's one of the few guys there is who's presence you can hear in their music. I mean, you can't hear Elvis without thinking about his image & subsequent impact. He was fucking brilliant. I remember people calling Ricky Martin the next Elvis. Man...

I've come to the conclusion that "Street Hassle" by Lou Reed is my favorite song. This has been a personal debate for the last week or so. I've listened to this song SO many times since then, & i notice different things about it each time. I'm a major sucker for the whole mini operatic style, which helps; the Who's "A Quick One, While He's Away" has been one of my all time favorites since i was fifteen, both because i fucking LOVE the multi-song style & because of its use in "Rushmore." But "Street Hassle" is just such a dark song, with just enough light in it, that it all fucking works. And musically, i love it. Like, a lot. Like, okay, if it were a chick, i'd lick & caress its toes. The classical/orchestral style of it just makes your heart race. I was listening to it just after my class Tuesday. The leaves from the trees that surround the grassy area & everything else (anyone who's been to CRC knows what i'm talking about, at least vaguely) were all falling almost exactly with the music. It was an amazing image, one which i will remember for a long time. I love that song.

Anyway, yeah, i'll quit now.

yah, this year was pretty tame up until the last two monthes or so. Everyone has thier own reasonings behind the recent madness, I'm guessing its just a case of a small town with almost no cute girls driving men insane...wink

I did say almost...the cute ones are really cute.

Going to make it to the Holloween party right? smile

People that don't like Elvis (or the Beatles) I want to slap upside the head. It's like country music, I don't like it, but you gotta like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and a few others. Good music is good music (a rather profound statement, I know).
