Friday evening I had a date with a man I met at an office party. This alone can be a recipe for disaster, I know. Thursday night we spoke and he said he was looking forward to seeing me, and that we would meet around 8:00pm on Friday. Friday I leave work a half hour early to go get ready. Just as I leave, he calls to tell me he has another company party to go to at 8:00pm, but that he would be done around 9:00/9:30pm. Already slightly annoyed, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he just forgot about it, and I figured it just gave me more time to get ready. But I asked him to please call me if it was going to be later than that, so that the night would not be a total waste for me. After spending hours cleaning my place and beautifying myself, I still hear no word from him by 10:00pm. So I picked myself up & went to yet another art gallery party downtown, by myself. Here I met a highly cute 26-year-old attorney who is one of the most genuinely nice guys I've met in a while. We're having brunch in an hour.

Oh, and the would-be date left a message at 11:30pm: "Just got out of my parties. Bummed I didn't get to see you. Call me if you're still out."

7:45. Update:

Just got back from drinks with a married rocket scientist and a gay tenor. They helped me gain perspective, as did you.

So both guy #1 and guy #2 called. Guy #1 asked me to meet him for drinks with another couple I don't know, in an area of town that I hate (after practically standing me up Friday night). Guy #2 asked me to yet another downtown party for a few hours, and offered to pick me up.

I am going with guy #2.

I am well aware that I could go with neither. The ideal would have been to follow the married rocket scientist and the gay tenor, but since this was not possible...

8:02. Update: Neighbors Tut and Starr dropped by with homemade salmon cakes and rigatoni. Life is good. blush
