I am thinking about dropping some of my IM accounts, ICQ and Yahoo IM in favor of only keeping my Jabber account.
Lately I have been getting spam from about 5 people or so daily, about half of them by the name of 'Natasha' (new accounts every time, I keep banning the old ones in my client). This is getting annoying since I mostly use that one for the occasional talk to one of my friends from school who moved to other cities and some people from online games I played years ago.
Yahoo on the other hand hasn't had a spam problem but I seem to get connection losses a lot.
I also don't like the client I am currently using, centerim, much. Using only Jabber would give me a much wider field of clients to choose from than the multi-protocol clients I need with Jabber and ICQ and Yahoo.
The main problem is how to convince the few people I really do care about keeping in touch with to make the move (or how to figure out if they might already have a Jabber account). Sending everyone a message about this sounds like a bit too much work for a program I am using maybe once or twice a week (even though I am constantly online).
My preferred solution would be to just leave a message in ICQ and Yahoo somehow that would be displayed to everyone trying to contact me, pointing them to my Jabber UID. I haven't really figured out how to do that yet though.
