Although it's nearly 9PM and I'm still at work, I'm ok because I managed to enjoy one of the better weekends I've had in a very long time.

To start, I slept in late on Saturday (if you can call 10AM late). Left the house only to go running about three miles, read a little from Murakami's book, "The Wind-up Bird Chronicle" (which I've only just gotten to after vutek recommended it over a year ago), and groomed Chavez, my big, black, simple dog.

The evening was spent with good friends, watching "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" at Mann's Chinese theater. I don't think the film was nearly as bad as it's been made out to be; it probably just wasn't as good as people had hoped it to be. But it was such a pretty looking film that I was glad to have seen it.

Early Sunday morning was spent with bpd getting pummeled by the Venice surf. I picked Venice because the waves are known to be fairly docile, although the hurricane traveling north up the Baja coast injected the water with a fierceness not normally found in that area. Still, I was happy to swim into the ocean, trying in vain to paddle past wave after wave crashing over my head, that would inevitably hurtle me about in underwater summersaults.

I could use a few more weekends like that.

vutek:
fall is the perfect time to read the golden era of Murakami!
i'm picking up Mason and DIxon after an 8 month pause since I only wanted to read it during the fall, though i really should finish it this time around. it makes reading about map making fun!

my favorite blurb used in the "sky captain" ads is all, and i'm paraphrasing:

"if you don't like this film then you don't even like the concept of cinema!"
