There's a very thin line between my pride in earning a living and completely exhausting myself. This line has been crossed several times in the last few weeks.

Hollywood is a very strange creature, to say the least. I think to some degree, just about everybody is capivated by the allure of "working in entertainment", having a career in a "creative" field. But the economic realities are that supply far exceeds demand, thereby supressing the wages of the people who provide the work. I come from a family that prides itself incredibly on a strong work ethic. But I no longer believe in such a thing.

A strong work ethic is a euphamism for a business' ability to (overtly or discretely) coerce its employees to work without adequate compensation. A strong work ethic is equivalent to telling your employees, "We're counting on you to deliver the goods," yet not compensating for it. A strong work ethic is paying your employees a salary, so that you never adequately provide money for actual time provided. A strong work ethic is negligently allowing or forcing your employees to sacrifice themselves for the job, knowing they are either too naive or too conscientious to walk away from unfinished work.

A strong work ethic is bullshit.

Let's face it; the only reason we go to work is to earn money so that we can live. And it doesn't matter what you do for a living, because you still do it to earn money. Some of us enjoy what we do to earn that money more than others, but we still do it for the same reason: to make money. Unless you're fortunate enough to be independently wealthy, odds are you're working for a living.

So if you're working for a living, is there any reason you shouldn't be paid for that time? Is there any reason you shouldn't be paid for ALL of your time? Is there any reason you should be paid the same amount of money if you spend 40 hours a week at work or 70 hours a week at work?

Fuck that.

don't let the machinations of the man keep you down, dude.

SWELL SCHEDULE

Thursday the 16th were expecting the SW and NW to increase about 10% or more putting most south facing breaks in the waist to chest high zone, west facing breaks waist high.

Friday the 17th is when our next SW swell is due, but the initial size will be small to moderate, picking up more on Saturday. This swell is from a moderately significant system that broke off the ice cap near Antarctica last week. Size is expected around the waist high zone for most south facing breaks on Friday, increasing more on Saturday.

Saturday the 18th were expecting the SW to increases as the NW fades. Look for the best size at south facing breaks in the chest to shoulder high + zone. West facing breaks are looking at knee to possibly waist high surf.

Sunday the 19th were expecting the SW to remain similar to Friday (the chest to shoulder high +), and it looks like well be seeing some added NW wind swell to help west facing breaks pull in some waist high sets. Were also expecting some SSE from Hurricane Javier, mostly background SSE in the waist to chest high zone for breaks that can pull in the steep 160+ energy. And then things get bigger on Monday.

can you do county line on saturday?
