I drink sake straight from the bottle!

It's funny, but although I was born in Japan, and that my mom is Japanese, I never think of myself as Asian. Nor have I ever. I moved to the States when I was five and I went back to Japan to visit the grandfolk every other summer. But back in California, I just thought of myself as one of the guys; one of the white guys.

Weird things about Japan (that I love):

* You can find little Shinto shrines everywhere in the city. It looks like a little temple with a Buddha inside.

* The strong smell of the open air fresh fish market.

* Neon signs on buildings that advertise night clubs up on the 5th floor (or higher!)

* Eight-screen movie theaters that only have one theater to every floor (you take the elevator up!)

* A used 1998 Honda will cost you $800 because it would cost the owner several thousand dollars in taxes to junk the thing. Japanese *love* new merchandise!

* Giving money as a gift is NOT impersonal.

* Japanese love folklore and folktales. Ghost stories are especially popular! smile

* "Shabu-shabu" is my FAVORITE Japanese dish but you can never find it. It's by far, the MOST incredible plate ever. Ask me about it and I'll tell you!

Nearly forgotten word of the day - serendipity: the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for. (ie. good luck!)

some fuck-up names Joe. He used to work for one of the radio stations here until he got fired for being drunk on the job. Some other kid named Matt M. and then i know a crazy girl from Selma, but if you were from Selma, you'd be crazy too, i guess.
