Thursday night was interesting to say the least. I haven't been to a show in over a year, so, I went out to the Honeypot in Seabrook because The Bunny The Bear playing and Seabrook is only 15 minutes from my house. I got there super early I didn't know what to expect for a crowd. Only a couple people were there when I first showed up. They were having trouble with the sound equipment..an hour and a half later they had sound. I've never seen one bad cord cause so much pandemonium.
Anyways, there were a bunch of local bands playing first. I expected 2 or 3 not 5. It really didn't bother me. All the bands sounded great, but, the place was dead. After all the local bands played, Neurotic November started to set up, so, I started to get pumped because I knew after NN played TBTB would be playing.
While NN were setting up, the promoter of the show walked up to me and said, "the bunny would like to talk to you outside". I didn't know what to think, so, I just said ok and followed the promoter outside. He walked me over to the van and The Bunny(Matt Tybor) came out and introduced himself. He told me what was going on. Basically, Matt told me that he might not perform, The Bear is sick, the show was 18 plus and a lot of their fan base is under 18. Then he asked instead of performing if I'd like to hang out for a little while. What was I going to say? No? After he asked that, he asked if I knew if anyone else was in there specifically to see him. There was one other person inside with a TBTB shirt on, so, the promoter went inside and got the other guy(Jordan) and then Matt told him what was going on.
Matt had disappeared back inside the building for a few minutes. Jordan and I just talked a little bit. Cool thing was that we lived just one town apart. A couple minutes passed and then Matt came back out with some guy arguing with him. It was one of Seabrook's many town drunks I'd say. The guy got kicked out of the bar and was now outside harassing women one of them was Matt's girl. Let's just say Matt put the guy in his place. The asshole had it coming.
Two more people came out of the bar and walked over to Matt to see if he was playing. Two more fans that I didn't know were there just for TBTB. Unlike Jordan and I they drove 2 hours to get to the show..yikes. Once again Matt explained everything. He ended up giving the 4 of us a couple t-shirts and a poster and also told us that next time he's in the area he will make sure we get into his show for free.
We all headed to Hampton Beach to hang with Matt and his touring band mates. Matt and a couple of the guys decided it would be an awesome idea to go run down into the ocean then run back. Did I mention it was about 1am at the time? Matt ended up tripping and falling in the sand and when he got back up to the sidewalk puked in a bush. I felt bad, puking is never fun. After that, Matt talked to us a little longer then we headed to a gas station so they could fill up their next stop was Trenton, N.J. that's a long ride at 2 in the morning. They filled up, I wished them a safe trip, and that was that.
I just realized how long this was. Nothing like that has ever happened to me though. That's real dedication to your fans. Much respect to Matt. Not every band or singer would do that. A lot of artists act like they don't owe anyone anything. What artists like that need to learn is that they would be nothing without their fans.
If you read all this give yourself a HIGH FIVE!
Now I need to go to bed. I've been up since 6 am. Goodnight..Morning.
