So, it's been a busy week. Just finished working a meeting with nine writers...and dammit if that doesn't take a lot of mental energy...I feel like a fraud sometimes...and occasionally confident other times. *sigh*
I saw Rasputina at the El Rey on Tuesday and they were wonderful. They just get better and better. Two women with cellos and a drummer. That's it. And they can make the most delicate, beautifully haunting meodies...or they can play 'Rock and Roll' or 'Barricuda' and seriously tear the roof off the joint. And Melora is funny...a dry wit...full of fantastically bizarre non-sequitors about tether-ball and Stevie Nicks and the Church of Latter Day Saints (though not all at the same time.)
Anyway...here's the lyrics to 'A Quitter.' No, they didn't play it on Tuesday and lots of their songs are funny and playful...but this one has been stuck in my head. And no I'm not (that) depressed. They're just so painfully heart-wrenching...
I have worked out every small detail
In this plan I've made.
This thing which cannot fail.
I dare myself to do this one thing.
You can have my car
You can have everything.
All that's good is gone.
I have tried too long.
I don't think I miss my mom & dad,
The class I cut,
The friends I never had.,
These things I won't miss,
Won't miss me.
My house,
My block,
The baby bird I set free.
The dance that I was never asked to,
The teachers
that thought they knew me.
They'll all remember what I did.
They'll ask "Whose fault was it?"
"Oh she was just a kid."
I'll be glad to go, you see.
You don't even know me.
Not at all.
Be well.

If I haven't said it yet, thanks for saying hi. Nellie McKay is quite awesome, but most guys I know will not be convinced of this simple fact hehe. It's really hard to believe she's 19. I luff her.

Cranial Update: There is a zen-eibana arrangement on the floor by your oak rolltopdesk now. And someone left poppy petals strewn about the majestic foot of the marble statue of a satanic waterfowl.
