Okay - here's the quick and dirty.

First of all, I was in error when I thought my tickets had magically become for closer seats. I confused aisles and rows, and was centre stage, 19 rows back, just by the lighting board. That's not to say you shouldn't hate me, though. Despite the pit being much bigger than I remember, I still had kickass seats. Images of the band members on the monitors were smaller than my view of them on the stage. It was all good.

Secondly, although the Cure show was not one of the best shows that I've ever seen (the sound was terrible, they were poorly mixed, and the show was plauged by extremely distracting feedback which overpowered the band through several numbers), Robert Smith is a joy to watch when he performs. First of all, his voice is amazing - and to think he still has that range and power after so many years (a good contrast is Bowie who, while still a commanding and arresting vocalist, no longer has the soaring high range that defined so much of his earlier material - think, for instance of the chorus of "Life on Mars")... I have no doubt that, if he chose to, he could do a completely album-perfect rendition of something like "Boys Don't Cry".

Second of all... there was something I can't quite explain that was absolutely wonderful in seeing him smile. You could tell he knew he was about to launch into somebody's favourite song, and enjoyed himself. It was a beautiful experience. And when he said "We'll see you again" just before leaving the stage after the encore, it seemed like such a wonderful promise. I hope I get to see them again before too long.

Anyways - I may have more to say on the matter, I may not. All that matters to me at the moment is that I had a delightful evening, and saw another of my very favourite bands. If I could get the Talking Heads, Catherine Wheel, and The Police to reunite, I think I'll pretty much have batted the cycle.

I'm going to bed now. I'm fucking zonked.

I'm glad you had such a nice experience. I would love to see them!

What else is new? Is your place bachelor-ized yet?
