And so 2003 draws to a close. I hope you all had a good one, and have an even better 2004
I have vowed to never again take a long trip on the bus. I was going to rent a car for the holidays but let my father talk me out of it... again.... He's such a worrier. He means well, and I know he just wants everybody home safe for the holidays, but he seems to think that the moment I hit the highway in a car that every other driver and probably some meteors and stray missiles will aim directly for me.
So as a result of humouring him, I wound up riding the Greyhound both ways (which sounds really naughty but isn't), and on the way back, in addition to not really wanting to leave and not getting anywhere enough sleep, I got to deal with the following fun:
The bus was an hour late, and another half hour later leaving the terminal.
The bus broke down for about an hour outside of Barrie.
Behind me was a screaming brood of children who really saw the comic value in elbowing the person in front of them in the head a lot and kicking the chair constantly. (Don't get me wrong - they're just kids, and I appreciate that. But the charm of the young wears awfully thin when you're trapped with a toddling chorus in a broken bus.)
The battery of my iPod died almost immediately after the bus did.
Sigh. It was a long day.
Fortunately, that was the only downside in an otherwise great visit. I got to spend a lot of quality time with my parents (and my dogs) which is always wonderful, I got to eat a bunch of great food, and I got to see a few of my best friends.
Net positive.
Anyways - no big new year's eve plans tonight. A quiet night in with the gf is all that's on the horizon right now, but that's been all we've needed to ring in a couple of really good years so far.
I hope everybody has a great night, and doesn't hurt too badly from it in the morning.
I can't get the No Doubt version of Talk Talk's "It's My Life" out of my head. It may be even better than the original.
