I had really neato dreams last night. Stay with me here...it starts out gruesome but has a happy ending I promise.
So I was in a guerilla war. Me and a troupe of maybe 10 or 15 guys were being annihilated. We were standing knee deep in tannic lagoon water with the beach behind us. The beach wasn't large, it only went back for maybe 10 feet before thick Florida-type forest grew into it.
Everyone was shot but me and one other guy. The leader of the organization that was attacking us ordered cease fire and left us standing there. For some reason I didn't have a weapon. And I think I was Polynesian. Dark skin, dark hair. The guy left standing with me had unusually LONG facial features, like if you were to put your hands on either side of your face and stretch your skin back.
The leader of the other group was a voodoo doctor. He cast a spell that created a hovering skull. The skull was brownish grey and very small, maybe only 5 inches from skull top to jaw. He said the skull was a bomb, and it would pick one of us to blow up.
The skull darted around between the two of us. It hovered behind my friend, then behind me, then back between the 2 of us a few more times. Finally it settled behind me, just a few inches from the nape of my neck. The voodoo skull bomb had picked me to blow up.
So I walked away from the group to accept my fate. As I walked the skull followed me, sometimes darting down so my fingers would touch it. I was scared at first, not knowing when it was going to explode, fearing it would hurt before I died, and even that it wouldn't do the job all the way and leave me helpless and maimed, but still alive.
So I walked alone through the forest along the bank of the lagoon. Hard Florida leaves crunching under my feet, picking spider webs out of my path.
Finally I came to a place where the spider webs were so thick, and had so many deadly looking spiders, that I didn't want to go any further. I stopped to consider my path, the skull still bouncing around behind me, when I noticed just below me and to the left a clearing w/no spider webs.
The clearing was actually a tiny pebbly beach. There was a HUGE boulder to the right of the beach. So I left the forest for the beach, then decided to swim around the boulder. There were people in the water on the other side of the boulder. They also looked Polynesian.
At first I thought they'd be afraid of me, what with this skull hovering behind me and all, but instead they took me in, fed me, gave me a place to stay. In turn I taught them to speak English and do math.
It was a tiny community of people. They had built wooden dock houses around the lagoon. One day while in the water I looked up on the boardwalk and saw my companion from the battle, the man with the stretched features. He was alive!
But he was different. He was tiny and old and grey and his features were no longer stretched. He looked like an older gentleman from India. I ran to hug him.
Then I realized that the skull had diffused. I thought the voodoo doctor had cursed me, sent me away to die. But actually he had forced me to find a new life, he had helped me. The skull would not explode.
