In 1931, somebody wrote down something in German. In English, it read: "To every w-consistent recursive class k of formulae there correspond recursive class-signs r, such that neither v Gen r nor Neg (v Gen r) belongs to Flg (k) (where v is the free variable of r)." (My thanks to Hofstadter; variables have been adapted).
A paraphrase in more normal English would be: "All consistent axiomatic formulations of number theory include undecidable propositions."
Even simpler: "This statement is false."

A mathematical version of the Epimenides paradox, but one which is to my knowledge still considered a valid theory. Thus mathematicians have in a way formally accepted that reason may not exist without chaos, that they define each other.

It is thought that the following words were written around 2500 years ago in an ancient Chinese dialect: "Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil."

Life is good. My new mattress is going to be so much better to fuck on. I'm honestly more excited about that than any increased comfort I might be afforded during sleep. I guess one thing about the twin-size that's kinda cool is that you can grip the sides with your feet and use that leverage to your advantage. Oh but this new one is big and firm and bouncy; it's so much better. The old one was a hand-me-down from an old roommate's mother and it is fucking gross now. Speaking of which, it's still in my living room. Apparently the store's offer of free disposal of old bedding only applies to bedding of the same size. Fuckers. I'm not sure how I'm going to get that shit down to the landfill.
