I was trying to think of what's the difference between "haze" and "fog" the other day in the car- you know how when you think too long about a word it seems strange -- I guess haze is less than fog, and burns off, and maybe more positive in it's connotations- purple haze vs. purple fog.

what I think of getting out of yoga ideally is meditation, a hieghtened conciousness of my body/mind -- more concentration, calmness.

but that stuff is sooo hard! and like awareness "thinking"/mental processes while doing sitting meditation buddhist style, I tend to forget that that is what I'm doing -- watching, and get carried away with the aversions/desires/torpor, the whole kit and caboodle process of sitting there going F+ck my arms really hurt in this pose, or crap, I think I'm going to fall over.
and then I get that momet of - wow that was a really unserene thought/,moment and feel terrible about my lowliness as a spiritual being instead of just noting it and moving on.....

I like iyengyar yoga alot-- though I only know it from books- they have a klot of "restorative " type poses included in there stuff-- like supported back bends over a chair/bench/ poses supported with bolsters.

It's hard for me to pinpoint but I think the thing that irks me about bikram classes ultimately is their lack of creativity-- the poses are always always the same, and there isn't alot of room for adjustment. plus, `it might be sour grapes since I can't afford them.


I've decided to try and write about the internal intoverted world more. I find I have this barrier to describing the inner layers of things-- first there is the dificulty in communicating these things-- like zen- can you really say it in words? Then there is the whole non-touching family background I come from, and our social inheritance as cultural descendants of the puritans- We tend to ignore the body-- as much as we can.

maybe this will make for boring nonsense writing, maybe very solipsistic stuff. I dunno.

we have blah weather too. The road was a sheet of Ice when I came home from work this morning. and the whole dark at 4:20 thing. What is this norway?

If memory serves, we are technically losing six minutes more sunlight a day until solstice...and it certainly feels like it, doesn't it?! With the weight that darkness presses upon us, it feels as if it won't be soon gained back. *sigh* Only redeeming virtue is catching vibrant sunsets sooner... Today's hues were beautiful Maxfield Parrish pinks and purples accompanied by this year's first flurry.

i wouldn't say overprepared. just ready to take over the world.

i love misty days too. they just feel so good. and give everything a beautiful ethereal sort of quality.

yoga is awesome! I know thew money crunch feeling though. The thing about yoga is that you can practice at hojme too- I've taken classes, but I drift away because capoeira is usually the first priority in the activity budget. One of the major reasons I'll be glad to move will be to have enough space to do yoga at home.
I've decided that I can't justify spending money on yoga classes until I can motivate myself to actually do a little with some frequency (stretching before/during/after capoeira hardly counts as a practice!).

I did do some bikram yoga for awhile. I find their chain structure kind of repugnant, but I do like the hot, hot room, and the fact that there's always like 20-30 possible classes you could go to-- fits into any schedule. However, they are SUPER expensive, and I think there are other better schools around.
There's two or three yoga places around new haven now! holy yoga boom.

lets see- I was in Brazil for two weeks in feb. of 2001 and two months in the summer of 2001 - july/aughust. I had started studying portuguese through capoeira- the brazilian dance/martialart/dance thing I do 2 years before that., so I've been studying portuguese for about four years. Portuguese is my best language (after english) then comes spanish, which I studyied at the simultaneously with portuguese- port. was my out of school passion, spanish was what I took college classes in- and I have the equivilent of a minor in spanish. [although I strongly advocate studying lots of languages at the same time, I don't suggest really, really similar languages that you are at the same levcl in; sooo much extra confusion...
In middle school I had three years of french, the changed schools to do one year of spanish, then changed schools and did german and latin at the same time for three years.
I've studied french and german on my own a little since then, but I'd need a lot of work to get anywhere with them. I think french has more likelyhood of me putting any effort into it than german because german is harder to read. I dunno,I go back and forth..

languages I have studied as a dilletante, or have been breifly obsessed with and don't remember a lot of off the top of my head: norwegian, icelandic, anglo saxon, russian,welsh. scottish gaelic, tibetan, and quenya.

I dunno, I don't think it's so impressive- I hope I can actually get to a more real level of fluency in at least portuguese- I'm sort of the jack of all trades, master of none.

I'm glad your holidays worked out! mine were much mellower than I had feared. I think christmas will actually be no big deal, since I'm working ,so are several people in my nexus and it won't be a major family pilgramage.

It sounds like you found my live journal... I was going to be totally secretive about it, but now that I've figured out how to make private and public entries, I think I'm going to tell people about it.

I have to fight to just write straight out- I tend to fall into lists and stuff. THank you for your compliments I noticed you have a great style yourself-

House plant death is so sad! I'm lucky to have managed to keep an ivy plant alive for six years, but I think that's due to picking a shade plant that's virtually unkillable.
I have a dream of having an herb garden- maybe even just a few plants on my hypothetical windowsil but aside from Tiny Bob (the ivy) I'm not sure of the extend of my green thumb. My mother is a virtual plant assasin.

Hooray pictures!!! Pacific Standard Time is everything I thought it would be! It's difficult for me to track down pictures of myself for 19 times out of 20, I play the role of event documentarian. Also, sorry for the loss of your growing green friend!
