One Hour to Madness and Joy

One hour to madness and joy! O furious! O confine me not!
(What is this that frees me so in storms?
What do my shouts amid lightnings and raging winds mean?)

O to drink the mystic deliria deeper than any other man!
O savage and tender achings! (I bequeath them to you, my children,
I tell them to you,...

I suck at participating in most groups, but this one makes it incredibly easy.

My essay was on one's reaction to pain and injury.

Doesn't sound as though you'll be at the show tonight? But, living in Stumptown affords future opportunities, no?...I was wondering what percentage of people log on drunk...In fact, I would have this week as well, but sort passed out from exhaustion and imbibing first. Those 15-page papers will do that! Oh, the home-party was great...new toys for me and the husband! blush

No I don't hate SG --- just a sarcastic comment. I am not very happy that they moved their main operations to LA/ Cali. puke puke puke puke puke puke I do hate LA!!!.

I also don't think SG needs to be mixed with Playboy, but that is a separate political viewpoint I hold. I am of the old school viewpoint about corporate influences ruining counter-cultural elements of the world. Look at Harley Davidson it now a fuck joke - yuppies, lawyers and doctors- no woring class element left to the deal.

Someone has to be a crumudgeon(sp??), and i have decided that I will be one. LOL wink eeek

Fairys Song

Shed no tear O shed no tear!
The flower will bloom another year.
Weep no more O weep no more!
Young buds sleep in the roots white core.
Dry your eyes O dry your eyes,
For I was taught in Paradise
To ease my breast of melodies
Shed no tear.

Overhead look overhead
Mong the blossoms white and red
Look up, look up...

grooverider:
ok- back- let's start!

'How does someone without an ounce of self control learn to impose it upon one's life, words and actions?'

you answered your own question there.
not even an ounce?
well- in that case nothing can be done.
once you muster that ounce- go ahead and read the following.

Grooverider's mini guide to life! (the short version)

during the time i used to go get lunch and eating it, i thought of a few basics i'd recommend:

1. Detach.

Self deprecation is not humility- it's nothing less then an Ego Trip! Quite plainly- you're taking your ego for a trip- indulging in illusions both about how things happened in the past and how you assume they will happen in the future.
By 'Deatchment' I mean- treat yourself as 2 seperate people.
Move away from your incapabilities and examine them in a logical way- be both the guide and the guided, it will make giving advice mush easier! Plus- you will take much better care of yourself- think of it as taking care of a loved one. (in reality we take much better care of other people- no?)

2. Higher Self.

No - no new age here, this is a mental excercise not a spiritual one. I use it to accomplish particularly difficult tasks.
I simply imagine the strongest version of myself- even an imaginary one- Samurai always works for me, but choose whatever. So when the going gets tough- I simply step into character. It starts with little things like getting out of bed, through moments of physical and mental difficulties.

3. Small Steps to Advancement.

You know how it is- you make some kind of a resolution, a BIG one! It works great for about 3 days and then at the 1st site of procrastination you get reminded how stupid you were to even THINK you could do this...

In my mind- natural, healthy and correct advancement happens like this- 2 steps forward 1 step back- 2 forward, 1 back and so on.
The initial step (once you make it smile )has the most momentum with all the excitement involved- so it advances 2 squares- then you naturally go back.
If youre wise- youll keep on going.
If you think of this visually, youll see that every step in the way (except for the 1st) is visited 3 times! Forward-back-forward. Thats actually great- cause you get to revise each concept 3 times!

Its also important to understand that multiple such models are happening in ones life- some measured by days, some by weeks and some by years- so dont worry if youre in a rut! Its simply the backward phase of a forward process!

The idea of course is to always be heading in the general direction of Forward, as the same process can take a reversed direction as well!

A good idea is the Buddhist habit of reaffirming your vows. The fact that a vow was broken out of weakness, can not and will not be the cause for quitting the path!
Simply get up- take a breath, smile and keep going smile

4. Discipline.

This is more of an exercise, but it does wonders.

Choose one thing that does you or someone else good and takes NO MORE THEN 5 MINUTES! (preferably less) and do it once a day around the same time.
I have something I do every morning and every evening- it doesnt matter where I am or what obstacles I have. It can even be something you quietly say to yourself- thats more then enough!
I can assure you though, that the second you remember to do it, the first thought thatll come to your head is why NOT to do it-

Every time you conquer procrastination- your Chi gets stronger.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now- Im coming from a very strict place (youll understand later, through some of my activities) and I may sound a little militant-
Its only MY style! Please choose your own! smile
Ill conclude with a few things that helped me (and still do) along the way-
1. My drum teacher
2. don't be scared of the word 'corporate' - this is a GREAT book! it's more about the human aspect- less then business.
3. Always good to have around smile
4. Same authour- more in depth- Really Cool Book!
5. This is what I do. - Anything similar is good- not necessarily martial- could be a meditation class- anything with some good ol' japanese discipline! make sure to stay away from 'new-agey' places and go for the real thing!
Okeedoke- that's in short- i'm always available on Yahoo IM - groove_rider74.
Later! biggrin
